The Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union defined it as part of Ukraine in 1954. Had there been legitimate objections they should have been considered and a final decision made at the time. One has no justification in invading and claiming it is part of Russia after all this time. Clearly Putin was just using any excuse that he could find to try to justify his expansionist dream.

Like I say: zillions of times we’ve been over this. The civilised world order which the nations of the UN signed up to respects international borders.
Historical claims - which by the way as I said before could be made by several peoples - are irrelevant.

the guardian was reporting that the other main supply route for russian forces in the south is a lot more vulnerable to attacks by ukranian forces... doubtless they will do all they can to sabotage repairs too.
i do hope that the ukranian forces won't over extend themselves in their drive to recapture lost territory... but getting this bridge rendered inoperable is quite an achievement. Very difficult thing to do.

Yes the only road link is via the north into Kherson. There is also a rail link I think from Armiansk junction.
Yesterday Ukraine hit a major rail junction at Ilovaisk (scene of a Russian war crime in 2014) deep in occupied Donetsk, which will seriously affect alternative supply routes to occupiers in southern Ukraine

I blame Trump who agreed: "they speak Russian right, so they're part of Russia!" - and Putin said - I will make you the richest man in the world and Trump said that it sounded like a deal.
