Deer are at their highest numbers in 1000 years, and will be culled...so patients in some hospitals will benefit. Surely a good thing...but there are some who believe lentils and beans would be better. Apparently it's a very popular choice in East Lancashire where it's been trialed so far.
Thoughts?

Oh and Naomi, WE are decimating the world !!
//Leave nature alone to do as it will.//

Unfortunately we are too late for that, too many species that are not indigenous to the UK are here so we will always need to help unless you want many indigenous species to disappear.

In addition, unless you are advocating living in a cave and returning to being hunter gatherers we will always need some sort of agriculture.
//WE are decimating the world//

No WE are not.
Not enough caves for everyone. We would have to hunt & gather from our existing dwellings!
Shirley, I too understand what you’re saying and no one hates what we're doing to our oceans more than me - I scuba dive and I see it first hand - but allowing nature to do what it will just isn't realistic and sometimes we have to make compromises. If we don't everything else suffers. Allow deer to destroy the woodland, and what happens to the squirrels and the birds and all the other creatures for whom the countryside is home? Do we condemn them to starvation and death in favour of deer? Going by your philosophy, should you be eating animals that are bred and killed especially for your dinner table? Not really - but you do. Do you see what I mean?
Ymf you are right. We are too late. But mankind has not used their more developed intelligence wisely and has been instrumental in wiping out all we are supposedly trying to save. We are not superior beings, just because we have a greater brain power. That We now have a totally messed up world. Nature will win in the end and that will be the end of us. I have more compassion for animals than I have for humans. I don't mind admitting it. I will put my own family first and that includes my animals.
Anyway, if anyone culls my resident deer i will hunt them down and fed them to the foxes!
Actually Dave we could survive very well being hunter gatherers from our dwelling.

Only if you are prepared to kill and eat dogs & cats!
tho I do see the occasional squirrel.

MissTerious and burley...I'd much rather see some of it being used to help hospital patients recoup their health...considering the rubbish food some hospitals are known to serve. At least the culling of them results in some good.

ZebuSanctuary @ 06:17...did you actually read the article? Vegans are in a strop over it and feel hospitals should move to completely plant based.
//considering the rubbish food some hospitals are known to serve//

Having spent a few weeks in hospital (not recently) I thought the food was quite acceptable - maybe I'm easily pleased.
Dave, I meant where I dwell personally. We are surrounded by deer, partridge,pheasant, hares and rabbits and fields of goodies. No dogs or cats except our own. I doubt our friendly farmer would mind. We do a lot for him! Hubby would kill to eat. I just couldn't.
Partridge for supper for me...
ymb - YES we are !

pasta - plenty of food for us to eat in hospital or otherwise (although I wouldn't eat venison). I don't agree with culling them because there are too many of them, which I thought I made obvious, actually. I'm not going to repeat myself, my posts stand and I won't be changing my mind over anything I have said. Animal life is treated way too badly by the supposedly 'superior' human race !
I would rather cull humans Shirley because there are far too many of them and they do much more damage than any other animals. Just look at the state of this world!! ;0)
//I would rather cull humans//

Friends with a certain Mr Gates are we? He thinks there are too many of us.
//He thinks there are too many of us.//

I can't see how anyone could possibly disagree with that!
Will it come with blackberry and sloe gin sauce?
