Another Manifesto pledge broken by the Tories .
How many pensioners will vote Tory at the next G/E now that they have suspended the triple lock system on their state pensions. Typical Tory Trick The rich get rich and the pensioners get poorer.

Voting for the same Party regardless of how well they perform is just monumentally stupid. Even if you're a long-term Tory supporter, it should be obvious that you want a *competent* and capable Tory party. A good way to achieve that is to send them to opposition now and then, to make sure that they don't fall into complacency. As regards the triple lock, I'm...

How much towards your pension do you think you have paid in over your working lives?
Gulliver let's see if she sticks to it. I'll believe it when I see it.

Bhg @ 15.31 I can see where you are coming from on that one .
From the gov website:

Qualifying years if you’re not working
You may get National Insurance credits if you cannot work - for example because of illness or disability, or if you’re a carer or you’re unemployed.

For example, you can get National Insurance credits if you:

claim Child Benefit for a child under 12 (or under 16 before 2010)
get Jobseeker’s Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance
get Carer’s Allowance

Seems like most pay into the state pension pot, but a lot do not. But still get a S/P
""The full state pension for those retiring after April 2016 should now rise to £203.85 per week or £10,600 per year - taking it above the £10,000 benchmark for the first time. The old basic state pension should rise to £156.20 per week or £8,122.40 per year. Thanks to the announcement, pensioners dodged a 'double whammy' of broken promises that could have cost them £442 a year. Yesterday, reports suggested the Chancellor Jeremy Hunt might be preparing to axe the triple lock. However, during PMQs earlier today, Liz Truss said that she and the Chancellor are completely committed to the triple lock meaning that pensions should now keep up with rising living costs."" Oops ... more "premature exaggeration".

Corby. 11.21. Of course. Thanks. I didn’t read it in that context:
YesLB. Just realised Serps goes up but doesn't keep up with inflation. Thanks for reminding me. It really wasn't worth taking it up.

Nobody believes this government any more, with their reputation you’d still need to check the diary if they claimed that today was Wednesday.
I'm of the understanding that pensions will be adjusted in line with inflation....so 10 percent plus....so gully's spouting untruths again but to be fair to him, he's probably jumping the gun - and my question is whether his German, Italian or Estonian pension is so protected.
So you pay extra every week through serps to help you in the future and meet the required NI requirements, then the scheme changes and find you are getting less than state pension. It really irks me!
This morning I heard on Talk TV someone refer to a pension as a benefit , I was pleased to hear Dr David Bull say in response, “ it is NOT a benefit, it’s an entitlement that those who’ve worked for it, have paid into it “

Seem like the UK State pension is amongst the lowest in Europe then. WHY.
always has been - I worked for a third of my career in Europe and get significantly more than what the UK pays out.....
Gulliver, I don’t know why but we got along nicely on ours and still do to a point but we’ve also made provisions for us to have a private pension ….and I am pleased we did
Oh yes it is Bobbi. I had such an argument with the DWP about this and they insisted it is called a Benefit. NOT a Means Tested Benefit but a Benefit all the same.

LL I think SERPS was worth taking up if it kept people out of claiming Means Tested Benefit.

BS @ 20.35 Sorry but this wonderful Conservative Govt think if you are receiving a State pension then you being supported by State Benefits. And you are all a load of scroungers, no matter how much you and your husband paid life time contributions.
Ha! I’ve never ‘scrounged’ in my life I’m happy to say
what a load of bllx there - somehow I don't think that the government would spite their noses to such a huge percentage of the electorate as the older gens make up...and very much underpinned by the fact the indication today that pensions will rise with inflation. I suppose the Corbynesque monthly or weekly payout from the ex Czechslovakia regime is not a pension but a 'stipend towards living costs and shafting the UK'.
