My friend is manager of a chicken processing plant and all the chickens are processed in exactly the same way with a Muslim prayer playing very quietly on a loop. Three quarters are not labelled as halal, the rest are.

Slitting the animals throat and hanging it up until it's life's blood drains away causes a lot of distress to the other animals in the queue that are waiting for death . But it's ok because a prayer is said and that makes everything alright!!! All in the name of religion. It is a sick and outdated ritual .
It sounds to me that Halal and Kosher are very similar. Both seem to be from the same part of the world. Both seem to have the same attitude to living creatures below the human level. Life was hard in those days, so they didn't have the squeamishness that there is today in some quarters.
I'm vegetarian and don't see a need nowadays to kill animals to survive. If we do feel the need to kill them, then I would hope that we would try to do it as painlessly as possible.

I think if you eat animals you have to contend with their deaths, however that is. I know that Kosher is not eating 'the kid in the milk'. No mixing of meat and dairy, no shellfish, separate cooking facilities etc. I remember (in the 1970's) going to a friend's house and her dad had killed some chickens for the pot. They were hanging upside down by their feet from the washing line with their throats cut. I also have pictures of family members (probably 1920's) carving up a pig outside their house that had it's throat cut. So it wasn't so long ago we were slaughtering animals in this country without stunning etc
