Aebu - // NJ // not entirely convinced that she is biologically female //

Do you suspect BG might be hermaphrodite or her biological makeup comprises of a XY chromosome pair? //

And this is relevant to a discussion about her release as a prisoner exchange - how exactly?
// And this is relevant to a discussion about her release as a prisoner exchange - how exactly? //

Since posts concerning the prisoner exchange now seem spent, the introduction of a tangential topic might just inspire OPs to submit views from a different perspective which relate to the main theme.

Besides, I'm rather interested in why NJ feels she is not 'wholly' female.
Fair enough.

I am just concerned that people don't use Ms. Griner's sexuality as a stick to beat her with, in the way that Ms Fulani's charity accounts submissions were (wrongly it transpired), used to besmirch her personal reputation
AH? Ms. Griner’s sexuality? What do you mean?
Why is Ms Griner's biological gender a matter of importance to many on this thread? They were unfairly detained and their release should be applauded. It's just a shame the release came with the price of freedom to a genuine criminal.
Naomi - I have explained my point in my post at 18.01.

It seems quite obvious what he means. Here is a selection of comments on this thread (which is supposed to be about a prisoner swap):

* To Greece, the Isle of Lesbos perhaps?
* Saw this on the news and was shocked when they said she was a 'she' - would have put money on that it was a bloke.
* It's "her" Adam's Apple that really gives the game away.
* I suppose the women who play the game are quite happy with Brittney's participation in their sport?
* I'm not suggesting Brittney is transgender (since that is an equally meaningless term). I'm simply not entirely convinced that she is biologically female. But it's only a suspicion and it doesn't matter to me. But it would matter if you were a participant in women's basketball.
* I’d never heard of the lady before. She looks quite masculine. She might have DSD, like Caster Semenya the middle distance runner who has spent years trying to get back into her sport, with fellow competitors complaining about her.
* Do you suspect BG might be hermaphrodite or her biological makeup comprises of a XY chromosome pair?
AH, you’ve explained nothing. I suppose some question her gender because, for one thing she’s big - and she is ‘blokey’ - but is her sexuality in question? As I understand it she’s a lesbian. So what?
> So what?

A fine question, maybe better asked of those who made the comments I highlighted above ...
They’re allowed to think, ellipsis. That you object to what they think is not their problem.
Peak AB ...
Ellipsis - Thanks for taking the time and trouble perfectly to illustrate the point I was making.
Naomi at 18.30 - you clearly do understand the point I made.

You said what I said - that Ms Griner's sexuality has no bearing on the original question, which concerns her exchange as a prisoner.

So I'd you think it irrelevant, why do you claim not to understand when I said exactly the same thing.
Ellipsis, true though. People will talk - and speculate. You won’t stop that.

AH, I think your ‘point’ defended something that didn’t need defending.
Naomi - That may be true, but ar least you are no longer pretending not to understand what that point is.
AH, I don’t pretend. Those you’re criticising are questioning her gender. You are defending her sexuality. Weird innit. Even Mozz is referring to her as ‘they’ instead of ‘her’. Oh what a tangled web …. ;o)
Naomi, I have no intention of wandering further down the blind alley that is the finer points of gender identity, I can already feel one of my heads coming on ...

//Do you suspect BG might be hermaphrodite or her biological makeup comprises of a XY chromosome pair? //

I suspect she is not biologically female.

//And this is relevant to a discussion about her release as a prisoner exchange - how exactly?//

It's not relevant to that at all. But it is relevant to the remark made by the OP at 20:28 yesterday.

//Besides, I'm rather interested in why NJ feels she is not 'wholly' female.//

I'm not particularly interested in that. I wouldn't be interested at all except that this person (of whom I'd never heard prior to yesterday) appears to participate in top level women's sport. I have a particular gripe with males participating on female sport and take an interest when I see what may be an example of it.

//> So what?//

It's a discussion, that's "so what." I didn't know we were subject to "Terms of Reference".

//They were unfairly detained and their release should be applauded.//

There's only one person the subject of this thread, Mozz. "They" and "their" are plural pronouns. I know some sources define those words as pronouns to be used when referring to a person of unspecified gender. Apart from that being nonsense, I don't believe there is anybody querying this person's gender.
