//As far as I can tell, the goal of all this is about making people who actually care one way or the other for some reason or another, not care any more.// Actually, Archi, I think the goal is to pick a fight with the UK government to demonstrate how oppressed and controlled the Scots are under the colonial masters. Having been put in their place by the Supreme Court...

For those in the very real trap of gender dysphoria it's an enlightened step, but they are a tiny minority in a population. I would prefer more stringent requirements for medical and psychiatric evidence not less. By giving this right to the proven, and evidenced cases they could reduce the risks from those who would abuse this. I really think the blanket acceptance of self-identification is wrong and only creates problems for those genuine cases.
looks like these two brothers disagree with the snp magic money tree of independence..

Tigger: "Not sure whether it's a good thing or bad tbh. Good for genuine cases but I can see the cons too." - no it's bad for real cases very bad. Now when they turn 16 every attention seeking weirdo is going to self identify and cause no end of problems. The miniscule proportion of real cases will be swamped by the avalanche of imposters who think they can gain something. If there is such a thing as "Gender dysmorphia" it's very rare.
//I don't see how it's possible to "choose" gender.//
It is because the term is now largely meaningless, Tora.
I don't really care how people dress, how they behave or what they call themselves. They can call themselves a horse for all I care, so long as they don't try to enter the Grand National. But, except in very rare circumstances, and certainly not on a simple whim, one cannot change one's sex. When men start to encroach on women only spaces and participate in women's sport, that is a step too far. I note the UK government says it has concerns about the legislation and could seek to prevent it becoming law by blocking Royal Assent. I don't hold much of a candle for the current mob in Westminster but in this instance I hope they work well to thwart this most ridiculous idea from the most absurd leader of the UK's most Rotten Borough.
