Actually, Archi, I think the goal is to pick a fight with the UK government to demonstrate how oppressed and controlled the Scots are under the colonial masters. Having been put in their place by the Supreme Court a few weeks ago Ms Sturgeon is eager to demonstrate that the fight is not over. Unfortunately the victims in that ridiculous fight are women and girls who do not want - and should not have to endure - their spaces and facilities invaded by men pretending to be women. But this is but one consequence of Blair's ludicrous devolution scheme.

One pretends that the brain isn't failing to recognise the body that it's in by mutilating the body to look as it it matches. One doesn't remove gender dysphoria by changing physical reality to match.
If one is determined to live as the sex one is not, then it ought not be made easy. There are plenty of accounts of later regret. And for a single nation, there clearly should be a single set of rules on this practice. It is not one for different regions to decide for themselves. And I'm sure that the Scottish Assembly know this full well.

I can see why they would do that in principle, but this seems like a very strange choice of legislation - surely if they were serious about doing that then they would choose something that was, as far as possible, universally seen as a good thing. Not something where there were boos in the public gallery when passed.

I suspect out Nic didnt expect the boo's she really does think everyone agrees with her 100% and she is far too arrogant to back down.
Just look at her refusal to even discuss what is as plain as the hole in your backside to most people. There was no reason to not to have amendments that would protect around half the population.
It will end in tears, there will be civil actions against the Government no doubt but all the wee un will do is, as usual, say lesson are leant and do nothing.

The reason I believe she has chosen this issue is that there is a small but very vociferous minority chanting in favour. You only have to look at the treatment that anybody receives who takes a contrary view to that minority. Ms Sturgeon is a canny political operator and this has little or nothing to do with the benefits it is said to bring. Adequate UK legislation exists to allow people to change gender. Ms Sturgeon says it is too troublesome and intrusive. That's exactly what it should be as it is not a matter to be taken lightly.

yeah - no - I agree. ( the Beeb also had that idea) - to rehearse the crisis of 1909 when the Lords chucked out the Budget for the third time and it turned into a general election about Lords Reform - Three elections in one year. Third one purely on Lords Reform
Liberals lost their huge 1906 majority and never formed another govt. Swings and roundabouts
