why is there so much anti-royal family stories or negative press in the media at the moment ?
Is it the fourth estate trying to take residence in the royal estates ?

I thought it's become something of an embarrassment, rather than anything to be proud of - Andrew, Harry etc.

Despite what we might like to think, the rest of the world is only interested in it as a soap opera.

The benefit would be to realise we are a mature country without clinging on to this anachronistic nonsense. As regards the tourism argument, last time I went to Versailles it was packed, and they hadn't had a king there for a couple of centuries.

i am not aware of any history of mental illness with prince andrew but i think it's self-evident that he is not a well-adjusted person

Isn't 'expectation placed on them' one of several common factors that can be attributed to causing depression generally?

Many people during there lifetime may suffer one major bout of depression, for others, depression maybe episodic.

Surely then, this cannot be a reason to write someone off? What better proof of this than Churchill and his 'black dog'.The

Even if we were to believe the above, this situation would not be exclusive to senior royals.

Duckenfield (Hillsborough disaster) and Jimmy Savile are testimony to that.

that's certainly been the case in the past, ZS, but things have clearly changed - there's a lot more willingness to investigate complaints against possible Saviles. But I think it's fair to ask if the royals are still exempt from investigation. For instance, it was deemed "not in the public interest" to charge Prince Philip when he hit a car while driving. But the fact that his victim was facing charges over other incidents quickly made its way into the papers.

i simply think it is inconceivable to imagine a member of the royal family getting a fair trial for a serious crime... let alone getting convicted for it. That is wrong and it is a situation wide open to abuse.

concerning mental health, all I can say is that the royal family do not strike me as being a particularly happy and well-adjusted group of people and when you think about the position they are in it is very difficult to imagine how any normal person could be happy or well-adjusted... queen elizabeth seemed to cope alright but i doubt we would know anything about it if she didn't... certainly the king has had a pretty miserable life in my opinion.
