Scottish Gender Reforms
Should they be blocked? If you are in Scotland (or not) do you support these reform proposals?

//…as Ray Davies sang"girls will be boys and boys will be girls".// You should study the rest of the lyrics, ynnaf: “Well, I'm not the world's most masculine man But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man And so is Lola” And thereby hangs the rub. It’s one thing for a man to declare himself a woman. He could call himself a dog but he won’t be allowed to enter Crufts. But...

Yes they should be blocked. They clearly conflict with UK law (specifically the Equalities Act) and UK law must take precedence.
As above, Scotland has far more pressing matters to attend to which are within the remit of the Scottish Government. These exclude the gender nonsense and the equally nonsensical independence issue.

I posed the OP in as neutral a way as I could, may I now vent my spleen?
I think it is outrageous even as a proposal let alone propose it for new legislation.
Not only should it be blocked, but the Scottish Assembly should be ridiculed for suggesting it.
What is on Sturgeon's mind that she feels the need to support the absurdity that declaring as either male or female is a matter purely of choice & for that choice to become enshrined in law?
Is there something behind this we do not know about?
As a father of two daughters this would be yet another reason to fear for their safety within a society which seems to be going off the rails.

//Should be blocked and the whole devolved debacle disbanded.//

The trouble is, youngmaf, that once the Genie is out of the bottle, it is extremely hard to force it back in. If anybody proposed that the ridiculous devolution nonsense was to be abandoned they would be accused of "curtailing democracy" - even though, until 20 years ago, the Scots enjoyed no such democracy.
Only one person managed something significant in this respect and that was Lady Thatcher when she abolished the Greater London Council in 1986. That only lasted 16 years and in 2000 the gullible London electorate voted in favour of an "elected mayor". What they didn't recognise (because it was not emphasised) was that they would also get the Greater London Assembly to go with it - the GLC by any other name. They thought they would get a Rudi Giuliani. Instead they got Ken Livingstone.
Never mind. The good people of North East England are next in line to be presented with an elected Mayor:

This has been praised as a "significant step" by local politicians. I'm sure it has. There will be plenty of troughs - in sizes to accommodate all snouts - and plenty of palms to be greased to "ease the paperwork."
Strangely, nobody seems to have considered asking the electorate whether they want to finance another load of bottom feeders. Perhaps that's because in 2004 they were asked and almost 80% of those who voted rejected the idea. You're only allowed to come up with the "wrong" answer once.

I don't agree, nj. As, I am sure you are aware- AB (with lots of affection), tends to be 10/15 years behind the actual world. This was fully predicted well over 20 years ago, and kept as quiet as possible. I genuinely still believe, as I have always said, that the tide has already turned. We just wait a little now.
