Khandro - // In it, he never accepted liability, but paid her money anyway. At the time, he was under pressure to settle in order to avoid overshadowing the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Now that his mother is, sadly, dead, he may feel freer to fight. //
Of course, none of us can know, either what has actually gone on, or what Prince Andrew is thinking, so we are all free to speculate freely, as we are doing once again.
My own interpretation of the events thus far, is that far from 'distracting from the Jubilee', as the excuse given for Andrew settling, I think it far more likely that for once, he actually took sensible advice from his legal counsel.
That advice being that he stood a very good chance of losing the case, and an absolute certainty of having some of the more unpleasant aspects of his behaviour revealed to the world, and he would be advised to avoid court at all costs - pun intended.
Now that the reality of life as an outcast is starting to bite, it is possible that Andrew's default arrogance and stupidity is again in the driving seat, and he is foolishly chasing after something that is actually gone forever - his good name and reputation.
I think he believes that, if he wins his case, his record is expunged, and he becomes a wonderful popular royal again.
Since that is something he never actually was in the first place, that's a tall ask, but he is stupid and arrogant enough to think that this will be the outcome.
We shall see ...
