after serving 8 of his 16 year sentence - do you think he could resurrect his music career? I still enjoy his records and would probably go to a gig if he did one locally. Or do you think he should be permanently outcast?
There is a big difference between not knowing what an artist did and knowing. Wondering is not the same as experiencing.
If Glitter's music is played in years to come there will be some who give more than a seconds thought to what he did.
You obviously have no idea how long sexual abuse lives with you. I was six and seven years old. My abuser looked like Wilfred Bramble in Steptoe. I could never watch it. If a clip came on with him in it I felt sick and that was years later.
One of the things my abuser did was to hold my six year old hands and make me 'pleasure' him onto a newspaper on the floor. Sixty five plus years later I still can't bear to see a newspaper lying on a floor.
Anyone who says he has served his sentence, who happily listens to his music....well if I said what I think of them I'd be banned from AB.
gness, so sorry to hear what you went through, glad you are happy now with Dave , but I know you'll never forget that horrific experience, I hope it helped, even a little, to talk about it x
Thank you, Ellie. I was over sixty before I could tell anyone, even family about what had happened. It destroyed my first marriage. But yes, I told Dave everything and he's been fantastic and I'm happy.
I think you have known me long enough and well enough on here, to know that if I knew of any artist who was a paedophile, before I heard any of his or her work, I would of course not be remotely interested in having anything to do with them.
I was listening to Garry Glitter records fifty years ago, a long time before there was even a hint of his behaviour.
The two situations bear no resemblance to each other whatsoever.
I am insulted that you would even question me about such a thing, but there you are, you have your answer.
gness--^^^-- there was no way that I was defending G.G. I was trying to point out that although we are all disgusted at the present time and find what he did abhorrent there will be people and(I did not say me included) in 50 years or more who will play his music and neither know or care about his background. I have never liked Gary Glitter or his songs.
As for not knowing much about sexual abuse. 20 years in the NHS does give you a good insight. I am sorry for the distress that you have gone through for years but I was merely stating a few facts.
