wokeness going too far !
I thought God made Jesus in his own image, does that mean Jesus is next in the firing line.
jourdain; I take your point about ways of avoiding the use of "they", but I do feel it a bit odd to consider refusing to play the organ without being paid, simply on an issue of grammar or verbal elegance. If there is a "God" in the wise, loving etc sense then I'd be very disappointed if 'God' took umbrage at 'wokeness'. If 'God' wouldn't, then isn't it a bit presumptious for humans to do it? I honestly don't understand why there is such a fuss about this issue; it seems to me simply a way of finding something to squabble about, and I'm sure that 'God' would be quite disappointed.
I am a Christian, a regular at our local church, and I will continue to use the word ‘Father’ when reciting the Lord’s Prayer.
why change tradition and many many years of observance because of a trend towards pc "ness" if words do not really matter ? some things should simply be left as they are
Anyway, the Christian 'God' is supposed to have three aspects or components or manifestations. Surely 'God' could have included a token female. The nearest thing to it would, I suppose, be the 'Holy Spirit' because it never had a male body and it wasn't addressed as Father.
Atheism makes a a lot more sense, as it dismisses all this nonsense (over which wars have been fought and martyrs made) and allows people to follow the 'Golden Rule' without encouraging violence.
Atheist, you’re ‘sure’ what God would think? Really? That’s pretty presumptuous - and from an atheist too. ;o)
Er - point of order - how can it be the 'Lord's' Prayer - surely it should be the Lord's or Lady's Prayer?
Naomi; I didn't say that I was sure what God would think, as I don't believe that there is a 'God'. I do make some assumptions about life, but I don't regard them as infallible, much less as doctrine. Perhaps better to stick to the essence of the question, rather than having a tease at me. What do you think about the issue of whether or not 'God' has a gender? I mean talking in the context of an important matter which involves life, the universe, everything and all time, rather than a local spat on a tiny planet about how some animals feel about their own identity and how others should feel. I think we local animals should make an effort to get along with each other and cultivate mutual respect and understanding.
Anyway, I've got to pop off and start making some pizza dough, and only got 75 minutes to get then on the table on time.
Virgin on the ridiculous.
^made me giggle Douglas
The CofE : is this new religion?
There is a huge stumbling block to this, though.
The CofE refuses to marry or bless same sex couples because it goes against what is written in the Holy Bible.
This isn’t about whether God has a gender. It’s about changing the language to
suit the demands of the ‘woke’ - who bring conflict to whatever they touch. How the church can even consider messing with The Lord’s Prayer - the very prayer that the Bible tells us was taught directly by Jesus - is quite beyond my comprehension.
Naomi; you seem very defensive about CofE. I thought you were an atheist. Sorry if I'm wrong there.
Naomi; you're beginning to sound a bit like the religious pushers here. Is your hatred of woke trumping your hatred of religion? If I've really got you wrong, then I apologise and shall take it into account in any future posts.
piggynose - were you put on this site to ask stupid questions??
fitdarrem: Were you put on this site to be rude? If so, who put you here? In fact, who do you think put piggy here?
Atheist, you shouldn’t be arguing on a personal level at all.
