I hadn't heard of this being mentioned before, and if they had attempted to kill all domestic cats there would be riots and uprisings all over the place.

Prime minister Larry would not have been impressed

Would have heard no complaints from me - can't stand the bird-killing, flowerbed-fouling pests

They are like marmite - some people think that they are the spawn of the devil and others obey their every command.
ah, they did that during the Great Plague, on the grounds that they might be carriers. Needless to say this was exactly the wrong thing to do, because there was nobody left to kill the rats, who were the real problem. The best laid plans of rats and men gang oft agley.
I doubt it was seriously considered. It would not just have been cats would it?
Dogs would have been next.

It was probably thought up during a brainstorming session. I can't see that they could have been serious.

TTT - you are right, why would they stop at cats?
TBH the main spreaders were human anyway.
Sounds like one of those brainstorming sessions where anything goes no mater how ridiculous and then you cross them off one at a time. A regularly used strategy in business.
wolf, snap!
Cats are uncontrollable and get everywhere in the house; worktops, beds, laps. They have also been everywhere outside, picking their way delicately over gardens, burying their stuff, playing with dead and dying birds and mice. Indoors and outdoors they lick themselves all over. Not what you want if they are capable of spreading a serious disease. Fortunately it appears not to have been necessary.
Sounds like nonsense to me.
Why cats?
They would not have taken ours, that is for sure.
I am very septical about these leaks. I have no time for people who betray the confidence that's been put in them, no matter what you might think of the people who've done it.
It doesn't say much for Hancock's judgment that he'd have trusted someone like that.
Multi-tasking, Ich?

TTT, the thing is that thinking outside the box produces some results.
You plainly know little about cats.

I also saw this earlier, I immediately thought how we would break the law and protect them. Unusual for me but losing my two would be like losing children. I love them deeply.

Was your post addressing me?
I don't wish to start a dogs v cats war, but dogs are the ones with poisonous faeces (and when did you ever see a cat mess on a pavement?), savaging kids, slobbering all over you when you least want.
They'd not be my choice of pet that is for sure.
Ich; I wasn't favouring dogs over cats. Was I wrong about cats' habits? The ones we had were exactly like that, and actually worse than I painted them. Anyway, it didn't happen. I hope I haven't provoked a culture war.
I am sure many of the mask wearing sheep would have gone along with it.

//They would not have taken ours, that is for sure.//

The Covidians would have had a field day with you then, as I know from experience especially on here.

I love dogs and was actually watching a YT video earlier where a GSD arrested a bad guy.

But cats are fascinating. We have to teach dogs tricks and how to do things like opening doors.

A cat sees what it wants and works out how to get it.

Like Prudie my cats were my family, and once I move house in a couple of weeks I may try and get adopted again.
