I'll point out, before anybody else inevitably does, that Oxfam states it's not prescriptive...but that's not really the point.

Oxfam have always been like this, I never give money to them as too much is taken out in 'Admin'.

Personally I support local charities or if giving more global the Sally Ann is much better.

I Don't support them... Tend to give to MSF, and indirectly helping abroad via charities that help care for the working animals in undeveloped countries. In a major disaster situation maybe also the red cross, but as it all gets pooled in the DEF Oxfam take a chunk anyway.

I'm biased.

I work for Oxfam and have done so for 15+ years. I am a volunteer and don't get paid. I love working in our shop and am going there when I go out.

Yes- Oxfam has its problems. It is a big organisation and they come up with some strange ideas. I moan constantly about the way they work.

However, it is a good source of old books and music. We sell online and we have some really 'unusual' books for sale.

I think the judgement is of how the charity is run, how quick it is to jump on the latest 'social bandwagon' not the genuine people at the coalesce who are probably mostly unaware of what is going on at the top.

dont think people are...but for as long as i can remember Oxfam have always had a reputation as being leftie agendas driven and one of if not the lowest amount per pound donated actually going to the causes it collects for.

Two charities I've subscribed to for a number of years - The National Trust and English Heritage - are rapidly going the same way - hence my subscriptions are no more.

Oxfam as an organisation is badly run by people who seem to have no retail experience. But I think that they do, overall, more good than harm.

I stopped giving any money to Oxfam many years ago. I'm glad I did. I prefer to support charities where everything I give goes to those in need.
