I wouldn't worry too much about the detail, it's not as if a vanload of heavies turn up to sort you out if you don't pay.

Just deny everything, including entry.
//It's only if you receive TV as it is broadcast on any channel.//

So if you have a TV capable of receiving live TV as it is broadcast , how do you prove you never watch it ?
You don't have to.
What I find amusing (or sad in equal measure) is the number of people on heere who think the BBC is left-wing! They are actually more right-wing than the Tory party itself. By the way I think the licence fee is fantastic value for money.

So , the TV licence authorities are going to take it on trust that you do not watch ?
I don't know for sure, Bazile, maybe contact them directly as I wouldn't want you depending on amateur advice on matters legal.
The compulsory tax on communication devises is a relic of a bygone age. Note how the recipients of the tax are so keen to get rid of all things that smack of heritage, history, or tradition ... except the £billions they themselves trouser due to those very same conditions. If you do not pay your subscription to Sky, Netflix, Appletv, or any of the other tv programme suppliers then you are unable to receive them. This is very easy for them to do in this digital and internet capable age. Are we to believe that it is beyond the abilities of the Beep to do the same if we do not subscribe? Of course it isn't, they just don't want you to notice. As for the non stop advertising of the catch up and iPlayer "services", now available on all your devises, realise that this is not to do you a favour or to make you life more fulfilled. It is to establish a precedent that they have always considered that they own the right to tax you for being in possession of any devise that is capable of receiving their output, even inadvertently. They can also block those avenues, just like every other provider, if they want to. How do they collect their fees from the other countries of the World that can and do receive them. Short answer ... they don't, you are paying.
Paying a license fee for watching tv has never really been top of my list of paying for things. This Gary Lineker thingee has just hardened my approach.Let the "woke"eejits on this site pay for Lineker.I wont and dont. And never will.
ynnafymmi - those who pay their TV licences are not 'woke eejits'. People may disagree with the fee, and that's their choice - this does not give anyone reason to feel superior to those who happy to pay £13 for the service the BBC provides.
You pay for Lineker and all his woke anti-British keich,sp.I wont.
//happy to pay £13 for the service the BBC provides.//

How much do you estimate that it would be if the millions of people who do not watch or want their output were not forced to subscribe to it? Those people are subsidising you.
You seem to be happy paying for Linekers million pound pay packet,sp.You keep on paying for it.You can pay my share also.Lineker must laugh at you rich.

Yes they are, and I’m getting a good deal out of it.

But then again - I don’t have kids, have never claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance, have private medical insurance (through my job), and have a private pension.

However, some of the tax and NI I pay goes towards child benefits, tax credits for those less well-off, job seekers allowance, the NHS and state pension.

Many of these I will never be the recipient of (apart from the pension). Many of us are forced to subsidise others.

I’ll be honest with you - I 100% appreciate how others must feel. It must be like being forced to pay for GB News even though you never watch it and think that its output is odious drivel.

I get that.

In this new digital world of television the argument for a state-backed media outlet is weakened, but as someone who benefits from the BBC, I’m happy with the status quo.

Absolutely - because at the same time, I'm paying for Laura Kuenssberg, Mishal Husain, David Attenborough, Chris Mason, Mary Beard, Amol Rajan and Ian Hislop.

I was happy to pay the salaries of the odious buffoons who used to present Top Gear, so I can't begrudge Mr Lineker.

Also - an analogy...paying the TV licence for me is like being forced to pay for car which I enjoy driving. I don't resent that tax because I can see the benefit out of driving it.

For you - you prefer walking. You hate driving and have no intention of ever owning a car - being forced to subsidise my driving habit when you're happy to walk must seem incredibly unfair.

However it does not make those driving cars 'eejits'. How could it?
I too have happily paid taxes and NI, knowing that it was also intended to help and assist the less able and fortunate than myself, for decades. This concept is embraced by most civilised thinkers. However I do rail against paying a tax that subsidises those who do not need it, and particularly those who even have the lack of self respect to boast that they, enjoy it and, don't need it. You sound just like a local government employee.(council)

Lack of self respect?

Enjoy it but don’t need it?

Sound like a local government employee…

Okaaay…

"¯\_(ツ)_/¯"

Have a nice evening. There’s a programme on about Aretha Franklin later.

Awesome.

It’s on the BBC though…;-)

Thank goodness for these ABers that think the BBC licence fee is worth it. What value we get for around 44p a day!

A black and white TV licence is only £53.50. And surely many AB members only see things in black and white ...
