gromit, if the judges aren't banging them up that's not the fault of the government. If they changed the law to make it mandatory, you'd be the first one pebble dashing your screen with organic peace porridge. This is a shoddy accusation, quite rightly condemned by fellow Labour party members who clearly see it for what it is. Shame you cannot.
The current sentencing guidelines for the crime referenced in the tweet has a maximum sentence of 14 years imprisonment.

Ostensibly, Labour would punish criminals further than the Tories. They say "Labour will lock up dangerous child abusers." This implies that dangerous child abusers are not locked up already, but of course they are! This is classic spin.
It may be true that "Under the Tories, 4,500 adults convicted of sexually assaulting children under 16 served no prison time", but that doesn't mean that any of those 4,500 are dangerous child abusers. For example, one of them may be a 16 year old girl that's in a relationship with a 15 year old boy. Prison is not the only option.
So saying “Do you think adults convicted of sexually assaulting children should go to prison? Rishi Sunak doesn’t” is fatuous in the extreme.

Ellipsis, it's the same sort of spin as hinting that the money going to the EU should go to the NHS instead. When it manifestly doesn't, some people will call them liars; supporters will say no no, it wasn't a promise.

This is standard politics and the only test for politics is whether it works. Personally, I don't think accusing Sunak of being soft on crime is any more believable than accusing Corbyn of being anti-Semitic - but that worked.

the anti-semitism smear against corbyn worked because it had just about every newspaper and broadcaster in the country willing it to be true when it actually wasn't... that's why it worked
this isn't going to have that effect because labour does not dominate the media like the tories do... labour in my opinion needs to focus on the catastrophic harm done to this country by unnecessary and ideological tory cuts... the hundreds of thousands of deaths they have on their conscience, the collapse in public services, the disastrous handling of the pandemic... these are all beyond dispute and it's much harder for the government to spin their way out of them
