Is this the same Labour Party that campaigned to stop a plane load of Jamaican rapists, murderers and general scumbags being deported? Fixed it for you TCP

Why didn't you just post the link, TCL?

//Labour MPs had campaigned in support of all 50 criminals, with former shadow home secretary Diane Abbott describing the Home Office's efforts to deport them as a 'racist dragnet'.//
ROY, "Why didn't you just post the link, TCL?"

I posted the bit showing your claim was not correct. Is there a problem with that?

Royfromaus,
A handful of Labour MPs is not the Labour Party, and not representative of the entire party. And ultimately it was the Home Secretary, Priti Patel who made the decision not to deport them, not Diane Abbott.
American style campaigning inevitably taking hold over here.

Disappointing, and also disappointing that some people are trying to defend it.

Labour have shot themselves in the foot.

21:25, roy I fixed the BA too!
Cushty.
Expect more of the same. The Conservatives don’t have a good record, giving Labour a lot of ammunition.
"Expect more of the same" - indeed - and the more *** they throw the less support they will get so keep it coming.
> keep it coming

We get the politicians we deserve ...
here's another poster from the same campaign -

https://twitter.com/UKLabour/status/1644339059215548416

the tweet start out ok -
1st sentence. incontrovertible
2nd sentence. incontrovertible
3rd sentence. total bluster but ok, whatever.

the piece goes, well, to pieces with the graphic:-
1. there's no such offence as that highlighted.
(it's "intent to cause fear of violence"(sect16) or "intent to commit..."(sect18)
2. under current sentencing guidelines all firearms offences attract a custodial sentence.
//The shadow attorney general insisted the prime minister was responsible for a "broken justice system".//

As the shadow Attorney-General, Ms Thornberry should be aware of the independence of the judiciary and of the Sentencing Council. The government can set maximum sentences but it should not seek to set minimum sentences, or types of sentences for offences where a wide range of factors must be considered.

// // Under the Tories, 4,500 adults convicted of sexually assaulting children under 16 served no prison time. // ?

It is not for a Tory government or one of any other persuasion to interfere in judicial decisions. The law allows for non-custodial sentences to be imposed for a wide range of offences and there is a perfectly robust appeal system open to both defendants and The Crown to challenge judicial decisions.

If Ms Thornberry is suggesting the law is wrong she is in a good position to lobby the appropriate people to introduce a bill in Parliament to change it. But I somehow have it in mind that is not what she is suggesting at all.
