No, I think it is an attempt to demonstrate that any video material they show is genuine, given what can be done by computer image manipulation these days.

CNN has been doing something similar for a while now, particularly in relation to video footage from the Ukraine conflict. Where war footage was claimed to be from a particular location, they use google earth to confirm that buildings and other land features are in the positions they should be within the video footage.

But I’m sure the fakers will get better and better, once they understand how their fakery is being exposed.

It makes perfect sense to me that they should bring together the resources that they employ to ensure that the news they broadcast is always the truth and not, say, the propaganda of any particular government or other body.
