What a health benefit that was going to be! Then we had the CC. This was definitely going to improve the air quality. And still we get outrageous statements from the Mayor of London and others saying the ULEZ will save 4,000 lives a year, when no-one can prove that as fact.
That about sums it up Douglas.
Now just tell thet to the JSO econ morons.
At some point in time we will need to move away from fossil fuels, but this cant be done over night (or even 2030) without plunging huge swathes of the poorest in society into fuel poverty.

Not everyone, this was the part of the story I found most uplifting.
Also, it goes without saying really that "Air 'pollution' has never harmed anyone" is the exact opposite of the truth: it's a major contribution to around 7 million premature deaths annually, and multiple studies have found it to be linked to other major health risks. Not to mention that it also has similar effects on plant and animal life.
As for the specific example of lead-free petrol, see https:/ /www.un .org/ap ps/news /story. asp?New sID=402 26& Cr=poll utant&a mp;Cr1= #.UZdko oJAsR4 . TLDR, yes it's obviously had huge benefits.
