It may have something to do with the fact (denied, apparently) that the UK government has offered £500m in subsidies, whereas Spain has offered only £300m. Quite why either government should provide subsidies to a private concern who want to expand into a different product range is anybody's guess.

Don't get me wrong, Tora - I'm very pleased. Yet another example of "Project Fear" being proved wrong. But JLR is hardly a newborn startup affair and I really don't see why the taxpayer should subsidise its business.

Judge, sprat to catch a mackerel, we get thousands of jobs all paying tax. If we don't offer incentive someone else will and 500m is a bargain for a generation of employment for thousands. Not to mention it fixes our EUSSR issue with batteries etc.

Countries all over the world offer dosh either by subsidy or by tax breaks. If you are the boss of somewhere wanting to build a new factory you are going to shop round for what deal you can get.

It is a British business as JLRA is a PLC and JLR Ltd are registered in the UK and has its HO in Coventry.

Yes, it is a subsidiary of Tata motors but that is the way of the world these days. Either way Jobs and tax will be in the UK, it is in our interest to be involved and 500m is peanuts in the grand scheme of things.

Tata does own British Steel. Interesting fact - 67% of Tata's profits comes from JLR.
Shame it wasn't such a big profit maker when it was part of British Leyland
