Liz Truss is busy preparing her list of Knighthoods and Honours ,for twelve of her allies and friends despite only serving as Pm for just 49 days.
Do you think this should be allowed,.... I don't.
But I am not expecting Abers to agree with me of course.
Liz , is doling out gongs to her mates, who helped her become The shortest serving Uk PM in history .But she still managed to do maximum Damage in the shortest time.
I suppose imaginary things and let's pretend loom large in the Truss mind.
Just tell her that she's doled out the baubles then put her back into her rubber room to see out the rest of her days, mulling pork markets and the disgrace that is cheese.
I think the PM's honours are wrong in principle. I think the honours system in general is overdue for a complete overhaul. No awards for long serving senior civil servants, mega successful business people, or for those in the arts unless there is a huge lifetime of achievement. They should be for bravery in the forces, including the emergency services, outstanding charity work, or community service.
I think PM honours should be ended or at the very least overhauled. They have become an embarrassing joke, when Bessie mates, popular musicians and fat cat business men who dole out money to the Party funds can receive knighthoods. In fact, non inherited Peerages should be abolished in my opinion.
Liz has not included her former Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng in her Honours list though. That means the mess she made of the UK economy that sent markets into meltdown in just 49 days was all his fault then. ......So she thinks.
This whole HoL is no more than an ridiculously expensive charade. We have more than enough MPs than we need as it is.High time to get rid of this nonsense and get a smaller(elected)upper chamber instead.
It is the rules of being an ex Prime Minister.
Just because you didn’t like her does not mean you can deny her what she is entitled to.
OK she was an embarrassing failure and her very short term cost the country dearly, but any change cannot be retrospective, that just isn’t fair play.
The rule is that a former Prime Minister can compile a list of people that they wish to honour. The rule sets no minimum duration of time in office as a criteria. So Truss gets to submit her list. If people are not happy with that they need to tell their MP to change the law. Not sure what would a minimum term before being allowed to give out honours would be.
What cannot happen is that Truss is denied (what she is allowed by law) because some people didn’t like her. That is not how things are done.
