Yes of course Gromit, nice bit of spin.

The only problem for you is your continued anti brutish digs shows you for what you are.

Oh yes the Leopard tanks Russia claimed to have destroyed yesterday turn out to have been combine harvesters.
the Ruhr dams were repaired over 2-3 months: even the Germans were surprised that the RAF didn't follow up with more attacks while repairs were under way. (So was Barnes Wallis.)

“What exactly are we watching ? ”

Early yesterday a video of Ukraine blowing up the rail bridge over the dam last autumn appeared multiple times in social media by people who probably thought there were being clever.
This fact is irrelevant to what actually happened.
Russia mined the dam in October last and Zelensky appealed to the UN (who yesterday by the way were trumpeting Russian language day btw).
Nothing was done of course.

The Russians had this contingency in case of an imminent counter offensive but while it might by then a little time on their western flank it won’t stop their military defeat.
And at least it might have flooded out the surviving artillery batteries which were still shelling across the river as of yesterday.
And of course because they can blame Ukraine and sine will even believe it ;-)
Ok,

The latest story from russia is that Ukrainian shelling hit the thing.
They simply condemn themselves by their own stupidity. Even intentionally shelling a dam like that would not cause the catastrophic damage we can see, where at least three sections appear deliberately to have been blown out, something which could only have occurred if explosives had been placed behind. It also appears that the water level of the dam was purposefully raised in the hours before to maximise the water releaase.
The most, probably only plausible blame you could place on the home team would be partisan or special forces had miraculously accessed the facility and placed explosives there.
There really isn't a single reason that makes any sense for Ukraine to do this, even if they had been able to.
Ok,
The Russians are B""""""s. This is clearly a war crime and Russia does not care, it will stiffen the Wests resolve to help Ukraine more.
Ok
The beeb seems reluctant to admit there is a flood let alone the Russians were likely responsible

I hope so William: the west is faced with what amounts to a terrorist/gangster regime, one which has complete disregard for the international order we have tried to live by sonce WWII. They must not succed, frankly, at any cost, because if they do our future lives, not just those of Ukrainians, will not be worth living,.
Therefore it was frutstrating to hear White House spokesperson John Kirby announce that they could not be sure who was responsible, although I see now the US is now saying they have "intelligence" which fingers the Russians.
Do things properly I suppose :-) As long as the Kirby line was the prevalent one then it would have hampered calls for upping the effort.
The Ruhr dams in the war - were more a British thing.
The Brits later found film which documented the flooding which had been censored ( as the counterpart would've been, in Britain)
Speer made sure that idustrial output was affected no more than 1-2%

Barnes wallace was surprised there werent follow up raids.
If you want to see thick men doing thick things, see Steel town murders. - or Arena hearings - which seems too have blown up ( pun intended) again

"The beeb seems reluctant to admit there is a flood"

In fairness they have a "verified video" of the roof of a house floating away, and there was in a way an amusing sight of a BBC reporter in Kherson city standing in rising floodwater.
It takes attention away from events to the east, which in some ways is a good thing.
one which has complete disregard for the international order we have tried to live by sonce WWII.

remember Trump's contribution to behaving badly

He says by the way that he would if elected bring peace to Ukraine in a day !
I'm a tad depressed Mr Pedant.
Thought you'd have lots more to say, in your special way.
Don't hold back, release your innermost feelings.
Hi Itch
thx for keeping us upto date

One of the worst "dam busting" events of WWII was the blowing up of a previous dam in the same place by Soviet troops to halt the advance of the Germans. That dam was much taller and overlooked a densely populated valley: thousands died then but despite my initial fears that scenario at least is not going to happen here. Instead you have oil-polluted flood water which will wreck the southern Kherson eco system.
There was also a dam busting raid by the russians in their war with Finland, about which little is recorded outside the Finnish-speaking world.
hi lozza
if it offends you, pluck it out - an olive skinned levantine said that once.

the mods take that to heart! hur hur hur

lozza - - a flood of comment !
presumably the Ukrainians are going to follow up and say to Crimea,
sorry Crimea - pas de l'eau
and cut off their water fed by the reservoir
