If the sub is not found in time will the operation continue to find the sub and the remains of those on board or will it be scaled down, I recall a caver trapped in a cave who couldn't be rescued and his body was left

I suspect they'd continue to try for a while. But sooner or later, if no success, they'd call it off.
// I recall a caver trapped in a cave //

There have been two widely publicised instances in the UK. the first occurred in Peak Cavern in 1959, where a caver became trapped in a narrow fissure and couldn't be retrieved. The second was in Mossdale Caverns in 1967 where 6 cavers were overwhelmed by a flood in a very constricted tunnel.

In both instances it was deemed too dangerous to effect recovery and they were sealed in. Although, at Mossdale, a group of friends of the cavers did a few years later retrieve the bodies and buried them in a remote chamber in the cave system.
At that depth I would think they would be left.

If it risks other lives then it wont be done.
There seems to be Titanic Tourism with the wreck being constantly visited, so I expect the sub will be found accidentally if it is not recovered in time to save the passengers.
Possibly, but finding it and getting it up at that depth are two different things.
They said recovering it will be possible using deep sea pipe-laying equipment. There's such a ship there now.
Depends where it is and what state it is in though. It could be entangled in the Titanic wreckage or suffered a catastrophic hull breach either when things went wrong or hitting the bottom.

I would have thought the chances of finding it in one piece is slim if it sank.
They believe they have heard half hour banging, apparently a marine signal to get noticed. So I suspect, if that is them, that the craft failed when they were close to the bottom anyway.

Thoughts for them. Not much time left for the rescue we all hope for.
I reckon it all boils down to - - - money
as long as you say - they could be alive
and people have done it - kids down a mine, and the er miners down a mine ( "estamos viventies" tied to a counter-angled drill bit) have exceeded expectations

The exploded Kursh was later dredged up
money- sozza-
so long as you say they are alive you can charge emergency rates
rather than salvage rates which are not time sensitive.

or are these zillions of rescue boats all doing it for free ?
OG, //They believe they have heard half hour banging, apparently a marine signal to get noticed//

My husband (a qualified dive instructor) said that and said the diver on board would know it too - hence, presumably, the tapping the rescuers were hearing.
I feel so sorry for their families, must be dreadful for them
Horrendous, ellie. Bad enough when someone close dies a natural death - but this is truly unthinkable.
Yes, naomi, thinking especially of the wife and daughter of the businessman. Imagine losing her husband and only son and the daughter losing her father and only brother, too awful for words
its upsetting me that some imply these people deserve this experience because they are some how stupid i understand that the safety precautions could be much better but can you blame the consumer i really dont think you can the horror they have or are enduring i cant begin to imagine were talking the worst claustrophobic experience anyone has suffered

would the early astronauts that lost their lives be condemned in similar ways
half an hour seems like a long interval
There are several vessels still out looking for the submersible. What an awful way to go. If one of the people aboard was from my family I would like the body brought home if possible.
Time enough for charges. The retrieval of the vessel and passengers is the major issue .
I agree completely anneasquith.
