David - Fair enough.

I don't think the military would want me - I think killing people for money is wrong.
How about for country?
As an x Royal Marine, I promise you that I did not join for the money.
David - Your reasons for joining are yours mine for not joining are mine.
With respect Andy, with your temperament, you wouldn’t have been the sort of person that’s required. Peace…

Clearly, and delighted not to be so.
Great, two people pulled out a gun and shot at each other. One of them died. Good story.
obviously cannot begrudge this person killing the thief because they were fired upon but it was not a terribly wise thing to do tbh as a car is not worth getting yourself shot over

I guess it encapsulates the gun culture in America.

Those who approve of guns think justice was done, those who don't approve think this is why guns ought to be banned - however unrealistic that prospect may be for a very long time.

Most things aren't - but that doesn't stop the culture and mentality that believes that shooting people is the preferred response in a lot of less lethal situations.
It has a satisfying finality in a case of this type.

No long drawn out argument over broken homes and substance abuse.
douglas - // It has a satisfying finality in a case of this type. //

In a situation where someone takes the law into his own hands and ends up killing someone, I'm not sure 'satisfying' is the adjective I'd use to describe the outcome.
That's okay, andy, nobody asked you to.
douglas - // That's okay, andy, nobody asked you to. //

If you, or I, or anyone, waited to be 'asked' to offer a view in a debate on the site, it would die overnight.

No-one 'asked' you to offer your view either - it's how debate works.

So let's take the right to post what we wish to say as read shall we, and not descend into being rude to each other.
That ship has sailed.

I am referring to our exchanges on this thread - and we can continue if you wish, or not.
The well known law in Texas is the right to bear arms. If threatened and indeed shot whilst making a citizens arrest to protect one’s personal property then the thief would be well advised to leave others property alone and certainly not carry a firearm whilst attempting to do so.It is patently obvious that the thief was not compliant in waiting for the police to investigate and make a legal arrest. The wrong doer is prepared to kill and AH would appear to believe that the lawful owner should take a bullet in order to facilitate the felon to escape. Crazy logic but certainly not surprising. The only one here who was wrong was the car thief. His deal of the cards and he lost. When in Texas know how Texan law operates or take the consequences.

That is your personal conclusion based on your interpretation of what I have said and is, as usual, complete inaccurate.

// The only one here who was wrong was the car thief. His deal of the cards and he lost. When in Texas know how Texan law operates or take the consequences. //

I would argue that both individuals were instrumental in the fatal outcome.

As I pointed out earlier, the confrontation would not have occurred had the car owner followed normal procedure and called the police following the theft of his vehicle, rather that following and confronting the thief and his partner personally.

This is a tragedy which could have been avoided - firstly if the victim of the crime had not taken the law into his own hands, with fatal consequences, and secondly, as I previously pointed out, it is another example of how a rampant gun culture leads to summary execution instead of due legal process.
Sorry, I missed the official permission slip delivery. Carry on.
AH
You confront a burglar in the night in your house. You are threatened with a knife by the felon. You fear for your life but happen to have a cricket bat propped up by the front door. Are we expected to think you wouldn’t defend yourself after you had been stabbed by the perpetrator? You are no atheist. You are a plaster saint with your pious logic.
