Some of you may recall my post a short time ago about Hitler rigging the vote in 1934 – he would no doubt approve of what the UK election observers
I had to find photo ID for my elderly mother recently and she didn't have any.
Her passport and driving licence had expired as had her only other thing which was a local council travel pass. She doesn't get out much you see.
This is probably why this wheeze backfired on the govt at the last local elections. They assumed all the respectable old folk would be all up to date, and the lefty layabout youngsters wouldn't have anything.
They forgot that the youngsters are so used to having to prove their age they carry ID without thinking about it.
"there are lots of things that need ID so why not our very democracy?" There are but not always photo ID.
I have no photo ID so I need to have a photo taken in order to get the Council to issue me with photo ID.
I was trying to arrange a plain background behind me so I could take my photo when I tripped and broke my humerus.
Needless to say, I have yet to get the photo sorted out.
I had an hour with the police ( plain clothes ) who for some reason ( we had NOT banged a police car also unmarked) - thought that ( Hi D C Kay !) ident number of car and name of insurance company
was NOT sufficient in law as he thought it was
we completed formalities darn the nick and once we had established there was no damage,
I asked what we were doing there. Selby v Yorks
I have no dayzeer to show an ident card on reasonable demand.....
postal voting was a disaster in May. three weeks later they wrote to me, and said that my monicker wasnt exactly in the box
so the vote was invalid ! - I wasnt told in time to go and vote personally so I was disenfranchised.
The people in the Birmingham scandal over corrupt voting have a LOT to answer for. (80% of postal votes in some wards were found to be invalid)
I doubt anyone has any idea what your trying to say there peterpedant.oh
I stopped at a traffic light
and man leant over and said you have banged a police car
and we said we didnt but we will turn back
and he said I am the police
and we said - good god are you? you are not in uniform and your car is unmarked
and he said I am commanding you to stop now
and we said we dont know you are police
and we said softly to each other wayne couzens
and he said... after we stopped... you have not stopped on command of a policeman
and we said we have stopped and we are speaking to you
and he said I want all ident......
and I said I want to see your warrant card
and he said ...... [it went on for 30 mins..]
(then it was agreed we hadnt banged his car)
and the leading case is Selby v Chief constable Yorks which pointed out that if you do not know that you have had an accident, then you cant stop
For those with out of date passports or photocard licences, you can use them still as long as it looks like you and the name on the ID is the same name you used to register to vote.
