heard on the lunchtime news that a 3 year old child had been kidnapped..Raped..and is now in hospital..fortunately they seem to have caught the men that took her..well i hope they get what they deserve not a cushy prison cell with all the mod cons at our expense..its about time they bought back the death sentance for monsters that commit crimes like this..They are pure evil and the trauma the child must have endured is beyond belief...Why people do things like this i will never know or understand they must have missing brain cells or be genetically weak and evil..its a vile crime and as a parent and grandmother it sickens me..I would quite happily push the button if they were sent to the electric chair and wouldnt loose a wink of sleep doing it!! no doubt some of you will disagree with me but this is my opinion!!

Do you not consider that taking a human life would put you on the same level - or in this case worse - as the perpetrator? Obviously your revulsion at the crime goes without saying and is surely shared by most right-thinking people - but your bloodlust is more than a little worrying.

I fully understand the above post, but I don't agree, unless Life really meant Life, problem is, once these people get out of jail, too many re-offend, whereas if they are executed, it won't happen again, and law abiding people are safer. There are some people, and I have no quarrel with them, who will forgive, no matter what the crime, i'm not one of them, I believe you have to imagine how you would feel if it happened to your daughter, and then relate that to the parents of this innocent, defenceless little girl.

quizmonkey...what am i supposed to think?? that its okay for these dreadfull men to kidnap a child? well i dont and yes i am angry..even more so as they wont get the punishment they deserve...you will probably find that the vast majority of people will agree with me..you may take it lightly without feeling but i hate crimes against children and animals as they are innocent!! A lot of people in the uk would like criminal sentances to be harder and longer..and a lot of people would also like the death sentance bought back!! If the person has without any doubt done something as evil and vile as this then yes i stand by what i say they should be punished accordingly..

I disagree with the death penalty not on any moral or religious grounds but simply that this country has an absolutely terrible record of getting it wrong and sending people to jail for life for crimes committed by others.

The sentence for these animals should be life without the possibility of parole, that way they can never harm another child and if we find out ten years from now that British justice has got it wrong yet again we can at least release them with an apology and cash compensation.

If it were my kids who'd been abducted/raped I wouldn't want the death penalty. I'd want to be left alone to torture whoever done it without fear of prosecution myself.

And that's the problem - the death penalty isn't about punishment, it's about a baser human instinct which is the need for revenge. I don't think the death penalty would necessarily be a detterent for child rapists, because 'the urge' would always overcome them in the end.

Actually, I'll be honest - I want to be against the death penalty, because I'd like to think of myself as dignified as Anthony Walker's mother...but I'm not. If it were a member of my family, I would want the perpetrator eliminated. I'm afraid my own base instincts would win in the end.

terrible crime - i hope they catch the person responsible, prove this persons guilt in a court of law, and prove the maximum sentance the english legal system provides.

I would never condone murder, even for the worst scum of the world, as i think it would reduce us all as a society... I cried when I heard this story. She must have been so scared and if you hurt an innocent like that then you deserve to die. How is this going to effect her whole life, what if this is going to be her first memory? What if she doesnt remember it, do her parents tell her?They have taken her innocence away from her, they have ruined her parents lives, as a parent you just feel destined to protect your child and it scares me half to death that this could happen to one of my boys.

I never believed in the death penalty before I had children, but now I just hope and pray that we can find a way to stop any more children being hurt in such an evil/vile way. Even if that means capital punishment. I question whether quiz monkey is a parent as I am sure it would change. I would never trust these fu**ers out on the streets so why keep them alive. When children are involved is the only time I believe in the death penalty.

Firstly all you can say about this is, poor little child, what she must have expereinced is beyond the comprehension of most of us.Secondly clearly the perpetrators are very evil and sadistic people indeed and should suffer the full weight of prescribed English law without a doubt, but insults against other's points of view and name calling is not helpful. Nor are emotive kneejerk reactions. That's what a lynch mob is and thankfully we do not have them here.To repsond thus would break down the order of society which is the very thing we have extablished to ensure such crimes as this are in the tiny minority.If we lose our place with establishing peace and calmness as the desired way of behaving by responding understandably violently to such a sick and horrendous attack then we are on a very slippery slope indeed.We cannot kill undesireable elements of our communities, we must seek to ensure they are not created in the first place.Also castration does not stop sex offending, contrary to popular opinion, it was tried in the states and failed miserably and it is also a fact that rape and killing is very common amongst all types of animals, so to say animals don't behave thus is ill informed.I believe anyone who harms a child should be dealt with severely but within the confines of our legal system, as Don1 says, we have unfortunately got it wrong too many times to re-establish the death penalty no matter how much some may wish to.

.....but surely this is opening up should we bring back capital punishment. Some people are ill and cannot help their actions as abhorrent as they are. Some people can.

In all honesty I dont think I would ever vote in favor of the death penalty, but some time I think sick perverts deserve it and that maybe if it detterred just a few from hurting more children it would be worth it.
