I've seen the orignal video a few days ago - and honestly can't believe that this could have been a deliberate act - in front of hundreds of people, plus the event was being filmed.

Even the most ardent of bigots wouldn't be that foolish to act in such a way to a child.

So what could be the reason???

Here''s the video:

Well that first link makes no sense. Let me try again.

A cock-up on the day, but then what happened after that was inexcusable ...

That poor girl's face. You would've thought someone would have noticed she wasn't wearing a gong around her neck. The photographer certainly appeared to zoom in on her (pun intended) after she had seemingly been passed over for a medal. Poor, poor girl.

I saw that on the news.  The woman was walking along the line giving medals to each as she went but she walked straight past that little girl.  Apologies do no good.  That was inexcusable.

I watched that last night. It was heartbraking . I felt so sad for the poor little girl. I hope this will not deter her from competing and give her  the resolve to strive for excellence in the future and get medals galore. Stick two fingers up for the Irish Gymnastics Board.

Aww, I bet her world fell apart in those few minutes. Disgusting! Someone should have said something at the time.

It must have been awful for the little girl.

She was bound to see the little girl standing there, to walk past her was cruel.

I really hope it wasn't intentional.  Surely nobody is as evil as that.

That was 18 monthhs ago. Wonder why we are seeing it now.

Obviously no lessons have been learned.

Felt really sorry for the little girl.

Gromit, this story has re-surfaced because it has taken the responsible (or should that be irresponsible) authorities until now to officially apologise to the young lass and her family.

Did the person handing out the medals say why she missed giving one to this child?  If so, what did she say?  Not much info there.

Unbelievable. Except it's on video. It doesn't matter it's a few years ago. The people involved should explain themselves.

lol, "The official was confused as to which children were to be given medals" and solved the problem by just giving them to the non-black girls, so that proves it was nothing to do with racism.

I suppose it points to not everything being the craic, leprechauns and tearful songs of famine and exile in Ould Erin.

I agree sp, mystifying, surely someone there noticed what happened. If I was there I'd have jumped and and said, "oi you missed one" just can't believe none of the adults there did that. Or even the kids for that matter, some of the other kids did look a bit puzzled.

Johnny.5 thanks for the link.  Gives an explanation of sorts.

It is inexcusable, the woman whe handed out the medals should be ashamed of herself.

So she did get a medal.

Yes she did.  Apparently the mistake was quickly remedied but I still don't understand how it happened in the first place.
