They say they don't support Hamas, but now Israel is under attack from that terrorist organisation, they're out on the streets calling for Palestine to be free.  If they are not supporting Hamas in its purpose, how are they expecting 'freedom' to be achieved?

On the suggestion that waving the Palestinian flag might be an offence, one 16 year old said, “For me the flag is a symbol of peace, of human rights. A criminal offence? Genocide, ethnic cleansing are criminal offences.”

Hamas has declared its intention to wipe Israel off the face of the earth.  Genocide?  Ethnic cleansing?  Hmmm .....

"Nobody here supports the actions of Hamas." - not seeing a lot of condemnation from Countrylover et al.

Why does anyone have to state their disapproval?

You know enough about the long term posters on this site to know that they are all good people.

Supporting either side in this conflict does not mean that we support terrorists.

Are you really so dim witted and arrogant that you can't see past your own prejudices?

TTT, lottie doesn't support terrorism so please keep it polite.  She sympathises with the Palestinian cause, as do I, because they have been treated abominably and they have a valid grievance.  However, as things currently stand their hope for victory rests with terrorists which is obviously unacceptable to any rational person - and that is the point of my question.  I was rather hoping for a sensible discussion on what is a terrifying prospect.  Since 9/11 the world has changed, the Muslim world's relationship with the west has changed and from my point of view there is no way I want to see an Islamic state replace Israel - and if most of those protesting really thought about it, neither would they.  Furthermore, we now have Jews in this country cowering in fear, and Jews in Europe having Star of David symbols etched into their houses - and that is something no one should relish.  What it boils down to in my mind is that the world would be a far more unsafe place Palestine replaced israel and therefore common sense must take precedence over idealism.

Frankly what is happening now scares the hell out of me.  We must never allow history to repeat itself.  Never!

It's an emotive topic but it's an important one so  let's stop with the personal comments and keep it civil please - and that goes for everyone.

Wolf, I have said over and over again to his questions that I don't support Hamas and I have never supported Israel in their treatment ofpalestinians  I'm like you in that I don't support innocents being killed and injured by anybody.

I bet that he was the biggest bully in school.  He still is a bully.

Here, here!

^^ that was to naomi.

I'm the opposite of a bully, I'm standing up for the victims here.

TTT no, you are bullying people.

Some people only see things as black and white or good and evil.

They'd start a war given the chance.

They'll do all they can to set good people against each other...goading, criticising, calling names. They dig in and ramp it up when they don't get the desired response...then turn say "see...I told you so. They're lefties/commies/un British/"

21:24, how? Surely if you don't support Hamas attrocities they are easy to condemn.

Thank you Naomi.  I  wouldn't generally make personal comments but when you're continually harassed by the likes of TTT it becomes difficult.    I'll keep away from the News Section again now.  But I still think that all these threads are basically the same.

Question Author

TTT, please stop goading.  No one here supports the atrocities Hamas is committing.  A sensible discussion would be welcome.  We on this site are not at war - or at least we shouldn't be.

Countrylover - // Sorry Naomi but we've had enough of this.  Why are you allowing it to continue.  No more threads please.  We have our own views.  If have been accused now on several occasions as condoning cutting the heads of babies, being anti semitic  and I've  given clear answers and it seems that you are backing TTT up with his awful statements.  Is this a different Naomi.  You dissappoint me. //

Moderators are not entitled to delete posts or threads on the basis of personl perceptions of relevance.

We enforce Site Rules, nothing more than that.

Anything Naomi posts under her name is as an AB'er, with the same rights to post as everyone else.

If you are unappy with the content or tone of one or more threads, you need to address your views to the Editor in the usual manner - no-one else has the power to control the site as you would appear to wish.

TTT - // Surely if you don't support Hamas attrocities they are easy to condemn. //

I think it is unfair generally, to assume that, because someone does not state condemnation of a situation, that the absence of condemnation amounts to tacit support.

It does not.

I believe the key to good debate is to respond to what has been said, and not constantly to badger someone to say something they have not said, because you believe that not saying something amounts to a viewpoint in itself.

Again, it does not, and it simply becomes provocation, and derails the discussion.

I am happy to presume as a matter of simple intelligence and humanity, that every single poster on here condemns the war crimes on both sides, regardless of the motivations behind them, and that can be taken as a starting point before any other views are offered.

If we start from there, the clamouring for condemnation, and accusations of support all cease, and a clear debate can be engaged.

Should anyone actually support the actions of either side, they are free to say so, and we can discuss that view appropriately.

Taking the moral high ground over other posters is not helpful, and should cease, for the reasons I have outlined.

Why can't/ won't the mods remove ttt's  posts ?

Andy, this this has been sorted.  Naomi and I are fine with each other.  I have been a mod.  I just hoped that because Naomi had witnessed what TTT had accused me off should be removed and thought that as Naomi was on the same thread she would remove such awful words.  I fully understand that she has every right to express her opinioms and I  do too. Those accusations about me and others approving of babies being beheaded should be removed.  They are not acceptable.  Whilst they remain I have no faith in any moderator who sees them and leaves them.  And in my opinion be suspended  for a while. I didn't need a lecture from you.  Naomi and I are both intelligent women both able to sort it out and we have.

Don't know Anne.

Ttt should  e suspended for a while, not the mods!

It is staggering to me that pro Palestinian demos seem to be plagued by calls for genocide: "Khaybar" plainly being chanted for example at a London demo.

You'd expect the boot to be on the other foot with Israeli protests and yet it doesn't appear to be. It makes it hard to be all that sympathetic.

anne - // Why can't/ won't the mods remove ttt's  posts ? //

Speaking personally - I have just returned from holiday, so I am still reading threads I have missed and catching up.

If I judge that any posts contavene Site Rules, I will delete them, but that has to be based on my personal interpretation of the Rules.

My personal view of what is being said does not come into it.+

I hope this helps.
