Ugly blot on the landscape, or sympathetically designed for its surroundings ? What do you think ? I'm in the ugly blot camp.

Based only on that render...it's hideous and does nothing to enhance the surrounding area. And why, oh WHY do trees need to be cut down? At least work with them!

I assume the picture is an impression of what it will look like and my comments are based on that assumption.

I agree with bednobs, I like it. And honestly can't see anything wrong with the 'render' colour, it fits in with the natural colours of its surroundings.

Many of these ultra modern low lying dwellings sit beautifully in the landscape, and much consideration is given to the outside materials and colours used exactly so they do blend in...Grand Designs??

The only issue I would have is what appears to be the unnecessary removal of the Scot's pines.

yahoo is definately not a news site.  it would be helpful if they were to say what the picture is!

also, i'm not even sure the planning application they link to is the one they are talking about.

I still cant see anywhere where it says it's been refused either

Ugly ugly ugly.  Why do they have to build a home there?  Leave the earth alone.  Too much money and no sense.

Vagus...I used render  to mean " artists/architects rendering". An illustration of what it will look like.

Oh right, Pasta, I thought you meant the outside rendering ie. cladding, etc.

Zebo it's also on a mound  at rhe entrance to the village with a  very steep drive and visible to all.  Did you see rhe photo of the village further down my link.  Anyway our district council and the residents won and now they have to build something along the lines of the bungalow they demolished and I'm sure it will have to be built in brick and flint.   I'm glad too that all the other building they have done, garage etc have to be demolished as well!

Bednobs, The BBC is quite a recognised news site and plans will can be found if you know the location.  More details here

when i pressed on the yahoo link, the planning portal told me the plans have ben removed from public view

Well I've done a search and can't find it.

But the photos give a pretty good idea .

i sort of have skin in this game (although not this particular one)

it has taken me several years in consultation with our local planning dept to get permission for my modern-looking extension to my 1930s house.  We too had lots of objections which were all a load of niff naff (in my opinion)

from people who already have similar sized extensions themselves moaning we'd have too many cars (what??) to people moaning theyd be overlooked, clearly not realising or bothering to check that we'd be removing a window and not replacing it, and in fact i can already see directly into thier kitchen! to someone else trying to use the law relating to stadium lights not causing light pollution and apply them to our modest domestic dwelling.

I was incredibly happy on one hand that we got the permission, but also angry i had to spend a couple of grand on a planning consultant to refute all of their ridiculous claims!

also, in the original article “I fear that if these places are taken away, I will be lost".  get a grip, things change!

In the summer, when most people would likely be in their holiday homes, would there not be a great problem with midges?

Well I find it a real eyesore.  Things change but they shouldn't change for theworse We can't get planning permission on our land for various reasons because its in a green belt and the rules say too it would have to fit into the local character which we would agree too.  The estate farming company put in planning application for a huge modern chemical store next to our  Norman Church.  It was almost immediately turned down.

I'll go with the ugly blot, carbuncle, whatever. Can't understand why trees have to be felled either. Its great when these people shout off at others and then turn round and do it themselves! If she wants it really environmentally friendly she should go for partially underground, grass roof etc.

I've been involved in planning too.  For three  years we had to fight for it on the land on ather property we co owned.  I was forever having to go to council planning meetings.  Also Mr L is chair for our Parish Meetings and I got involved a lot with that.  I don't now.

There are details of proposed landscaping Roo, in mylink.

I think it's ugly,Mr L thinks it looks like a beach cafe.  Healthy trees should never be removed unless they are causing damage in my opinion.  What is the building beside it in my link.  That's even uglier.

'The green roof will be seeded with grasses and heather'

only the one photo, but I think it looks rather handsome, kept low to the ground and in earth colours, no fancy ornamentation. I'd have looked for some way to avoid felling trees, though.

There are other photos on my link jno.
