do you honestly believe me to be a threat to this country's security youngmafbog or are you just incapable of separating your emotional dislike of me personally?

09:18, ok so what should Israel do? What should we do?

Ellipsis, //A demonstration supporting Hamas would be awful.

A demonstration supporting Palestinian people who are dying by the thousand would be acceptable.

So what demonstration is it?//

Not really a difficult one.  The mantra ringing out loud and clear is 'From the river to the sea Palestine will be free', the river being the Jordan and the sea being the Mediterranean, and can only mean support for the destruction of Israel - currently being attempted by Hamas.  That mantra interspersed with demands for Jihad?  Well, that's anyone's guess - but hang on to your head.  You too untitled.

// London is a very big place.  Could it not accommodate two marches on the same day? //

probably. but what location is going to get the marchers the greatest media exposure over that weekend - marching from Trafalgar Square down Whitehall for a rally at the Cenotaph, or marching from Ruislip to Rayners Lane?

"ok so what should Israel do? What should we do?"

1. stop giving hamas what they want. their goal is to provoke israel into carrying out atrocities because they can use them to recruit people from the bereaved. anyone they lose in these mass killings are easily replaced... their leaders are either 30 metres underground or in iran.

2. abide by the oslo accords and treat fatah/PLO as a partner. show gazans that an alternative to hamas exists and is better for them. channel money into fatah instead of channelling it into hamas.

3. give gazans an incentive to turn their backs on extremist politics: end the illegal settlements in the west bank, allow gazans to relocate there or in israel if they wish and end the 15 year blockade which has made the place poor and miserable. hamas profits because gazans have legitimate grievances and hamas are the only game in town... take that monopoly away from them.

4. long-term... counter-coup in gaza. restore it to the rule of the palestinian authority and allow the territories to be under one administration.

the current strategy is murderous. it is also ineffective - hamas are not going to be defeated by this war, but an awful lot of gazans have been and will be slaughtered.

"the river being the Jordan and the sea being the Mediterranean, and can only mean support for the destruction of Israel"

untrue. it means that within that territory oppression of palestinians should end. it does not mean israel should be abolished.

Untitled, Brush up on your geography.

palestinians can be freed without israel being abolished naomi.

09:35 1 - point taken but how can Isreal not react to 7000 rockets and the horrific torture and slaughter of 1500 people who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time?

2 - Hopeful lefty drivel, Islam observe no treaty, they are not encumbered by any rules or morality. They are pledged to convert or slay the infidel, that's it.

3 - see 2

4 - see 3

> The mantra ringing out loud and clear is 'From the river to the sea Palestine will be free', the river being the Jordan and the sea being the Mediterranean, and can only mean support for the destruction of Israel - currently being attempted by Hamas.

Looking at Roy's link in the OP, there is no mention of Hamas, no mention of the river and no mention of the sea.  So where are you getting your info from, naomi?  A link would be helpful.

untitled, I don't doubt you are well-meaning.  Naive - but well-meaning.

"Hopeful lefty drivel, Islam observe no treaty, they are not encumbered by any rules or morality. They are pledged to convert or slay the infidel, that's it."

they signed the oslo accords and were abiding by it just fine. then hamas seized power and has enjoyed israeli support for years.

fatah are marxists, not islamic fundamentalists and they govern the palestinian authority. i know you probably hate marxists too but they'd be much better for gaza than hamas.

untitled: "They signed the oslo accords and were abiding by it just fine. " - yeah when it suits them, gawd you lefties are so gullible!

sigh

my idea is better than just killing loads of people and then doing this all again in a few years

sigh - If it worked it would be but if Israel did nothing as you suggest Hamas would just keep going through Israel do their thing. Are they supposed to aquiesce to Islam and accept their fate?

A demonstration supporting Hamas would be awful.

A demonstration supporting Palestinian people who are dying by the thousand would be acceptable.

So what demonstration is it?

_________

As far as I'm concerned it is yet another show of strength organised by people who never tire of telling us their aim is an Islamic world.

We never take it serious but we should.

the actions i outline do not constitute "doing nothing" lol. they just don't involve bombing children to death en masse so are perhaps a touch less exciting.

"Are they supposed to aquiesce to Islam and accept their fate?"

erm no... if they were serious about wanting to get rid of hamas (they weren't until a few weeks ago) then they would work with the secularist palestinians rather than the islamofascist ones. israel existed just fine before 1967 without having conquered gaza the west bank and the golan heights. if it goes back to that situation then it will continue existing just as fine as it does now. no need for israel to be abolished or turn muslim or whatever.

You're being disingenuous, ellipsis.  You watch the news and see reports from other media outlets just as we all do.
