douglas "As it says in your linked article, which you've apparently still not read, the sandstone is porous and any water will soon seep away." - I did read it. Ground level in gazs is only a few feet above sea level, if they open a channel the sea will rush in to sea level unless the whole Med seeps through the sandstone the tunnels will be permanently at sea level and thus flooded.

that 3D model of the al shifa tunnel is a joke. israel never provided a single piece of evidence that the hospital was used as a "command centre" and in fact have lied numerous times about the medical facilities they have been attacking

there's no doubt these tunnels exist but I would be wary of IDF propaganda portraying them like a bond villain's lair. we can all remember the ridiculous projections of osama bin laden's supposed "mountain fortress" which turned out not to exist - i think a pinch of salt is required here as well

10:09, the water will be salted.

An engineer will be along shortly to detail the drawbacks of introducing the sea to underground areas above which cities are built.

//I would be wary of IDF propaganda portraying them like a bond villain's lair//

They are a villain's lair - albeit far from Bond-like.

10:13 later they can dam the channel then pump out the water and fill with sand etc.

"An engineer will be along shortly to detail the drawbacks..."

That would be resolved by having an adequate supply of Portland cement and aggregates to mix with the sea water...

😂🤣😂

Great thread...I like to start the day off with a laugh.

Perhaps they should waterproof the entire tunnel system first and then flood the system?

I've got 4 tubs of tanking going spare it that helps?

The tunnels will be above sea level anyway, but not a lot, Gaza isn't mountainous. The earth beneath will be saturated because of the water table, so the seawater pumped in won't soak away forever, as has been suggested ^^

And btw, the Israelis are far from stupid, In fact they've got some of the best brains in the world in there to work on it.

One thing's for sure, the Israelis will make the tunnels unusable by any means necessary, however long it takes.

They've commited to destroying Hamas in Gaza, and they're not going to stop until that's been achieved.

They've commited to destroying Hamas in Gaza, and they're not going to stop until that's been achieved, no matter  how many children drown or otherwise die

Long live liberation, and lots of it! - oops self defence I  mean

There would be little point pretending a target is legitimate and wasting missiles on it, incurring the disapproval of other nations, as nothing would be gained from doing so. The only aim is the genuine destruction of an enemy.

Tsk. There's tunnels, giving a good start to creating any new tube railway, and the suggestion is that they just destroy them ? Can't be confident that they're likely to wipe out Hamas then.

The link claims that "Hamas's tunnels are bigger in scale than the Tube in London"

Can this be true?

There are several reasons why this wouldnt work very well
