Denying the constituents the right to vote for whoever they wish doesnt sound very democratic to me. The present incumbent can barely stand up or string a sentence together.

Crap... But they have a written constitution which seeks to prevent those who seek to overthrow the elected govt from standing for election themselves. If that's their constitution, then they should stick to it, shouldn't they. He seeks to dismantle the democratic system and to appoint his own favourites to positions of power. Would you be happy if Starmer tried to do that?

No, but Democracy has to mean that, if it is to be valid, the electorate must have a choice of all who wishto stand.  Otherwise it is a farce, as  in Russia today.

jourdain. And the US constitution? You might disagree with it. but it is theirs. Would the US be happy if you were to tell them to do away with it? It was written to make clear in writing what their govt could and couldn't do, and to avoid religious or autocratic interference in what they thought were democratic principles, which would protect the new citizens from the stuff they had sought to escape in their original homelands.

What do I think.

I think America is screwed as far as President and Presidential candidates are concerned.

Biden is dementia ridden and should never have been allowed anywhere near the post, and Trump is a narcissistic megalomaniac who also should never been at the top seat.

Boris Johnson thinks it entirely wrong (and undemocratic) to ban someone from being a US Presidential candidate if they have been involved in insurrection.

 

To vote for someone who has indicated that they intend to become a dictator once elected would seem un-democratic to me.

 

In the not too distant future, the Republican Party will admit what a disaster having anything to do with Trump has been for them – in a similar way, the Tory party would like to forget Boris Johnson.
