Well things have certainly changed in your neck of the woods CL, Possibly things have changed nationally in the uk. I can still remember people being constantly told to keep the noise down in the central library in Brum about 20 years ago. To the point of being escorted out of the library by security.

I am planning a trip to Brum in March, so will check the new multi million pound library  to see if things have changed!

piggy, you'll love the garden in the new library.  Mondays, 11:30 until 13:00 is the children's Rhyme Time but it doesn't have the amount of activities that local libraries in Birmingham have.  It does have a Wellbeing Zone where you can get your BMI, blood pressure and weight measured.  It's a fabulous building

I meant to say that the library's main purpose is still study and reference but the lending section is more relaxed than it used to be.  No knit and natter here!

18.16 barry, ive actually been to it a couple of times. Yes the roof top garden is amazing!!

My only complaint was the pathetically designed bham t-shirts they had on display. I should say t-shirt in fact, that cheesy one you see everywhere `I💗birmingham` I´m sure they used to have t-shirts with the rotunda on for example!!
