Lee Anderson. Elected as a Tory but jumped ship when they suspended him because he wouldn't apologise for comments he made about Sadiq Khan:

Thanks very much, Retro.  Much appreciated.  I'll try to get around to watching it later.  Sounds like a very slippery slope.  :o(

It might have a iota of doom mongering but should it come to fruition it will mean a topic for discussion on this site will be banned.  Never to be spoken of.🤧

Good summary Retro, thanks. For things I've said on AB alone (& shall continue to say) I'll be heading for the slammer.😩

It needs to be admitted that blasphemy is not a thing, and that there is no law trying to give it credence anywhere, especially our own nation as we need to set an example.

From the internet.  //The common law offences of blasphemy and blasphemous libel were formally abolished in England and Wales in 2008 and Scotland in 2021.//

Let's hope it stays that way.

Why the Islamists are running rings around us, is because they have persuaded so many in the West that Islam is a religion only, when in fact it is, and always has been, a highly political movement, and as such, differs significantly from all other religions.

I've been saying it here for years, Khandro.  This country is now in dire straits and complacency the culprit.

'and rules by the sword'

And it's not just this country.  In one particular case (there may be more - I don't know) the European Court of Human Rights, in the relentless quest for 'social cohension', ruled against someone's valid claim.  That, in my opinion, rendered that organisation unfit for purpose.  Europe has been sleep-walking into this for years.

To me, Mr Anderson presents as a standard saloon bar bigot who 'believes.in plain speaking...'.

I may be judging him harshly, time will tell.

But spouting clichés off a laptop does not a decent MP make.

And all Reform's high promises will take a deal of time and effort to get through to the Statute Book.

Assuming that they get to that position, which I feel is unlikely.

Rampant jingoism makes headlines. But attention doesn't always translate into votes

Ask Jeremy Corbyn.

sigh!

There seems to be some worry here that the UK might make blasphemy illegal. Is there anything concrete suggesting that this is being considerd by our law-makers?

Khandro  - Do you have a point to offer?

Atheist, read Retrocop's post at 10.09 regarding an all party psmphlet.

// There seems to be some worry here that the UK might make blasphemy illegal. Is there anything concrete suggesting that this is being considerd by our law-makers?  //

Not really concrete as yet. It is an all party white paper code of conduct re blasphemy   which could enter the British statute books if Labour win the GE. It could stifle debate and erode our democracy. This is all discussed in Kandro's link if you take the time to watch it.

Thanks Naomi and Retro.

I doubt very much that blasphemy will be made illegal. If an all-party committee is discussing possibilities, then presumably nothing is settled, and pros and cons will be considered in detail. Is there an indication that Labour are in favour of an anti-blasphemy law? I guess it's all part of the pre-election scaremongering which has already started and will become much more vicious in the near future.

Sunak should call a May election - things aren't gonna change much in the next 6 months, might as well get it over with.

According to Tim Dieppe in my link at 09:14, all (I think) parties have accepted these proposals except the Tories.

Though I'm sure the Reform U.K. party now won't.

Correct Khandro. My error. They reeled off a load of partys but I note the Torys had not signed up to this rubbish. Labour and SNP were two but I wasn't taking notes as I tried to take it all in for the summary for naomi
