Do many of the people on AB  think that the result of the local elections on May 2nd will give an idea of how the result of the General election will go ..I do. 😂

Not many responses from the Tory supporters on this thread so far ...come on.. Don't be shy .

Predicting elections on the basis of by-election results is tricky at the best of times.

The indication is the vaporisation of the Tories in both.

the exit polls on the say are the most accurate ( apparently)

what people say they will do and what they do are difft and may be very different

"they" have established that voting patterns in local election are much less party oriented ( can he run the services) than in general elections

( same pattern in The Land of the Free)

People do lie - but only in exteme states

exit polls were so inaccurate in the fourth GE Thatcher won that they concluded the voters had lied ( said they had voted for Scargill  when they had voted for thatcher)

No.

To predict a GE on LE results is foolhardy.

It's expected Labour will win the GE (although with Sir flip-flop and the fish wife in charge I find that astonishing) but as a Tory, to be honest I don't much care.

The reason I don't much care is because the current Tory party are not Tories, and I'm in a position in life that it doesn't really matter to me who is in Government.

I've taken the conscious decision not to vote. I can't vote Tory, because they aren't Tories, and I won't vote Labour because I'm not insane.

I am, however, looking forward to when Labour FU, which they will, and gloat over those who think Labour are a panacea.

The boggle eyed would vote Smurf to keep the true blue thing going.

^^^anybody?

= the true blue tories wd vote tory to prevent those carmie buzzards getting power

/// I am, however, looking forward to when Labour FU, ///

Very anti-English - wonder why TTT hasn't picked that up.  Oh.......

We are going to be in the same position as the Americans  - not actually voting for who we like,  but for the person we dislike the least, and that's a sad state of affairs.

The overwhelming attitude that it's 'time for a change', like we're buying a new carpet for the dining room, is similarly no basis for choosing a government, but that's how it will be presented, and for a lot of people, that will be enough.

There is no real prospect of Labour being meaningfully different in vital areas, but they are going to get a chance to try.

Heaven help us all.

This present Government performed one of the biggest FUs ever with Truss.  Brought the country to its knees. I wonder if DD enjoyed that one.

i agree with deskdiary... one caveat is that labour love the echr and the eu, neither appeal to me but thats an aside, who gets in power erm makes not difference as none have any gumption or balls to do anything the electorate want anyway...and thats very sad for politics.

I've  no idea whether it makes any difference, but I messed up my postal vote so binned it.

//one of the biggest FUs ever with Truss.  Brought the country to its knees.//

That simply isnt true, and you know it.

In case anyone hasnt seen before I too am in the same boat as DD, except I will vote with "none of the above" written on the ballot.

As for local elections, ours is just for Police commissioner so I wont bother with that.

If you think the UK is (or was) "on its knees" try opening your eyes & look at so many other countries that are far worse off!

I too agree with DD and davebro.  We only have to look at the EU to see the state some of those countries are in.  Far far worse than us.  I think which ever party gets in they will have a difficult job.  People seem to have forgotten what a state Labour left us in after their last time in power and more recently in Birmingham to name just one Labour held council.  I'm struggling with what to do.  I've always decried those who abstain and then complain but it could come to that.

Well the Cons certainly gave the UK a triple whammy with Brexit Boris and Truss.
