// As Clint Eastwood's 'Dirty Harry' observed, when discussing the notion of vigilante justice ' "Next thing you execute your neighbour because his dog pees on your lawn ..." which is the sort of extreme we would reach very quickly, if everyone was allowed to dispense justice as they see fit.
The circumstance that leads to this sort of observation - a man defending his property from untruders, sounds to some like a extbook definition of the 'A man's home is is castle ...' position, and he should be allowed to kill intruders with impunity.
But if we extend that right to him, and others who think like he does, what do we do when someone shoots a stranger in is car for not indicating at a roundabout?
Or stabs someone to death for 'looking at him'.
The reason why we have laws to govern how we do, and do not behave, is to ensure that scenarios like that simple do not happen.
And if you believe that they are a good idea, then I sincerely hope that it is only ever you dolling out your own personal version of 'justice', and not that you end up on the fatal end of someone else's.
This has already been discussed as to the rights and wrongs of shooting burglars.
It is considered bad form in judicial circles for anyone, including police officers, to shoot a person who they believe are a threat to them, in the back. If you legally possess a firearm and come across an intruder on your property and you feel your life or someone else on the property is in mortal danger you may use lethal force to protect yourself. If you challenge the intruder and show the firarm and they leggit then you are in deep doodah if the threat is no longer present because they are running away. Bullet entry holes don't go down well in a Coroner's court and you would be committed to a criminal court.
As usual the lefties side with crims and terrorists and then use irrlevant row locks to justify why we must not defend our homes. Yes Clint Eastwood's character was correct but that was refering to a system of Police vigilanties (Magnum Force?). That's not what we are talking about here. This is a person defending their home and familiy from intruders intent on gawd knows what. We are not talking about the rest of the hysterics.
"The reason why we have laws to govern how we do, and do not behave, is to ensure that scenarios like that simple do not happen"
Absolutely, all sane decent people cannot argue with that statement. The huge flaw is when left to the law, regularly nothing happens. In this particular case it would be unlikely the police would have even attended and if they did the punishment would likely be a slapped wrist.
Speak to people who have been burgled, often it gives them mental torment and a sense of violation that takes a long time to heal, many never feel safe again in their own home. Some even need to move. Burglary of private homes is a heinous crime.
My guess is that farm burglars are after vehicles & machinery & probably wouldn't enter the living accommodation or carry firearms. They would also be aware that farmers are more likely to be armed than other targets.
Killing someone who has broken into your home intending to rob & harm you should not result prosecution.

But it simply does happen in this country and quite frequently. It is called roadrage and police killer Kenneth Noyes killed a car driver through road rage. Other incidents have occurred whereby victims have been stabbed fatally simply because of the way they looked at the assailant.
