Hear hear, Prudie!  I couldn't give a damn what happens to burglars.  They take their chances and if they come unstuck - tough!  And before anyone jumps in wagging a moralising finger and telling me about 'the law', don't bother.  I've heard it all before - several times.

Shades of the Tony Martin incident in 1999.

Perhaps these two 'lovely boys' were too young to remember that it is never a wise idea to try and burgle a farmer's home?

Bail. Quite rightly so.

The second burglary this gentleman had suffered in less than !0 hours. Enough was enough it seems.

The police soon got up there toute suite when he settled it by himself. Where were they after the first burglary?

"Mr Smith, of Chapel-en-le-Frith, played football for a local team and was a DJ at a pub."

Only occasionally was he a thief trying to deprive others of their stuff.

A diamond ... heart of gold ...

even career criminals need their hobbies it seems

The farmer did use excessive force and should have shot in the air to frighten the burglers off. The farmer has to be punished for taking a life but but in these circumstances leniency on him must be shown.

I read in one of the papers that it was an 'aggravated burglary', if this was correct then either one or all of the burglars were armed in some way so it may well have been self defence.  None of us know the full facts until the investigation by the police is complete.
