Is It Reasonable To Expect Neighbours To Accommodate These Oddities?

I get odd smells from my neighbours sometimes but I accept that I cannot expect them to curtail their activities. So why do the vegan fascists, expect it? There was a video of one having a go at someone eating on a bus the other day. What gives them the right to think they can boss people about?

This concerns one case of intolerant behaviour by a vegan. Don't label them all as fascists, that's silly and if I was a vegan I wouldn't bother replying to such a perile post.

I think the vegan should accept that we live in close proximity to people of all habits, faiths, appearance and customs, and should pipe down.

it isn't reasonable no. unfortunately we all have to put up with things that annoy us about our neighbours. it is part of life.

No, it isn't reasonable.  The vegan family should start house hunting - preferably for something isolated in the middle of a field.

I would be seriously wary of getting into a war of attrition with neihbours over any issue at all, it's draining, and makes life a complete misery.

Our previous property bordered on council allotments, and the nightmare we had with the 'Secretary' who was a reincarnation of Atilla The Hun was a royal pain, and we were not sorry when he died.

As far as this issue is concerned, I don't think it's reasonable to expect your neighbour to accomodate your wishes not to smell cooking smells, or barbaeue smells, that's simply a fact of life.

I would have politely advised the neighbour that I am happy to give them notice of a barbeque, when available, because sometimes such things are spontanious, but beyond that, the vegan neighbour has to accept that everyone lives the lifestyle they choos within legal limits, and their particular attitude to eating meat is not shared by the majority of society, including their neighbours.

It's just the brass neck entitlement that gets me. Ok so you have chosen to become herbivore against the better judgement of nature. Your choice but you cannot expect to go through life never sniffing meat cooking from the normal people. I have some neighbours who sit smoking in the garden when the weather is nice.  I hate the smell but I wouldn't dream of even mentioning it, their garden end of.

We live in a society where entitlement is getting out of hand - and this is one more example.

The trend for individuals deciding to adopt a particular lifestyle, and then expect wider society to adopt that lifetyle as though it is their right to have everyone live like them is entirely against concepts like choice and tolerence that mean a society can exist in relative harmony.

It is the responsibility of the majority to ensure that these attitudes are called out for the unreasonable attitude that they are - and not bowin down to your neighbours' unreasonable expectations is a step in the right direction.

Reminds me of the 60s and 70s when people complained about their neighbours cooking curries and painting their houses orange.

They vegan neighbours are clearly in the wrong.  When my neighbours have bonfires or barbecues I shut the windows. When my vegan daughter cooks lights for her dogs she does it at the bottom of her garden to minimise the affect on her neighbours. (The smell is pretty bad).

I would never eat smelly food on a bus, train or plane.   One of my neighbour's has choir practice in her living room every Wednesday morning - her next door neighbour goes out.  

Part and parcel of living in close proximity with people you have nothing in common with - give and take.

There was a video of one having a go at someone eating on a bus the other day. I think this frowned upon in many places in Spain, excluding the touristy areas of course! Call me a snob but i find it repulsive behaviour, especially as the culprits usually leave a horrible mess behind after theyve finished!!

Surely if they are the only sick people then there is obviously something wrong with their diet that affects their immune system. I would be recommending that they eat more meat and seafood to improve their health!

Wasn't that video someone objecting to a passenger eating in front of him when he was fasting during Rama. Nothing to do with veganism.
