Right-on liberalism has a lot to answer for and IMHO this is not acceptable in any shape or form.

When are the authorities going to get tough on this?

Was it right-on liberalism which resulted in the murder of Jo Cox?

All politicians should be able to go about their business without fear of things being thrown at them, or worse.

Nouveau Nazis again, she has the "wrong" opinion.

what would you suggest getting tough involves?  I see the bloke that threatened her was already charged, found guilty and given a suspended prison sentence

She doesn't have "gender critical views".

Her view is (paraphrasing) only biological women are women, which is (a) a view shared by the vast majority of the population and (b) an immutable fact.

^hear hear.

stop it with this heresy, everyone knows there are 651 official genders.

quote ; 'Last week, a man had been given a suspended court sentence for sending both her and JK Rowling - who both share gender-critical views - a death threat.'

A suspended sentence  for a death threat !

Within the terms of law (covered on another Farage thread) a death threat is a serious assault, the maximum penalty for which is five years in prison.

KHANDRO You are wrong about the maximum sentence.

In a Magistrate's court (where this case was tried) the maximum sentence is twelve month in gaol and/or a fine.

In a Crown court, the maximum gaol sentence is two year.

more accuracy on AB I see.

The worst thread for a Tory is to  say:  "I will vote Labour and YOU will be on the dole queue - just like me!!"

( and Tory candidate goes " scream scream scream, I am being harassed. Erase Debase Faze (*) him! scream etc"

Faze I have decided is " zap with a phasar" - makes sense to me

Hi CBL - max sentences have nothing to do with sentencing guidelines

Threats to kill are punishable by up to 10 years in prison, but most offences will not receive such a hefty sentence. The usual offence range is between a community order and 7 years’ custody. Threats to kill is an either way offence, which means that it can either be heard in the Magistrates’ Court or the Crown Court.

which is kinda unhelpful really

Threats to kill

Offences against the Person Act 1861, s.16

Guideline effective from: 01 October 2018

Triable either way
Maximum: 10 years’ custody
Offence range: Community order – 7 years’ custody

Well how about proper jail time for a start?

Have you noticed that it is usually inadequate men who threaten  these women in the public eye ?

the problem with having jail time for a threat to kill, is that you hear it in a pub, online etc everyday.

Perhaps MPs should be a special case (a bit like emergency workers) where threats to kill are aggravated because of the person's position?  it's certainly a threat to democracy too, so i dnt see why they couldnt do that

//  An internet troll who posted "chilling" online messages threatening to kill Harry Potter author JK Rowling and former MP Rosie Duffield has been sentenced.

Glenn Mullen, 31, uploaded audio clips in Gaelic threatening to kill Ms Rowling "with a big hammer" and said he was "going to see Rosie Duffield at the bar with a big gun", Westminster Magistrates' Court heard.

Mullen, of Clyde Road, Manchester, had been publicly identified as the poster of the audio clips by an online magazine shortly after they were posted on the X social media website in January 2023, the court was told. //

gromit, where is that from - and what was the sentence?

Are you for real?  These are not idle off the cuff drunken 'threats'.

See Gromits post above.

And yes I think all MP's should have better protection, like emergency workers.

"Mullen, of Clyde Road, Manchester, admitted two charges of sending a communication conveying a threatening message, Contrary to section 1(1)(a) and (4) of the Malicious Communications Act 1988."

Malicious Communications Act 1988

"(1)Any person who sends to another person—

(a)a letter, electronic communication or article of any description which conveys—
(i)a message which is indecent or grossly offensive;

(b)any article or electronic communication which is, in whole or part, of an indecent or grossly offensive nature, is guilty of an offence if his purpose, or one of his purposes, in sending it is that it should, so far as falling within paragraph (a) or (b) above, cause distress or anxiety to the recipient or to any other person to whom he intends that it or its contents or nature should be communicated.
...
...
(4)A person guilty of an offence under this section is liable—
(a)on conviction on indictment to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or a fine (or both);
(b)on summary conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or a fine (or both)."

If the sentencing were to fit the crime, as per barry's above post (& not as Corblyoon's).

These pond-life would think twice about making such threats.

Perhaps if it was a threat to high-profile Muslim they would be straight into the slammer.

Khandro

...or if you're Frank Hester?
