I'm sorry but when i saw the trailer for "Hostel" and read some info on it i had the impression it was gonna be a super gory shocker film.....but it was pants. You got all these people goin on about how "sick" or "gross" it is. The only "sick" thing about this film is the amount of profit Mr Roth and QT are gonna make from this pile of poop. I mean "Night Of The Living Dead" has more gore (and that was made in the late 60's...in black and white!!) As a fan of Horror i think people need to look at some of the earlier Horror films to be really shocked and grossed out. I wonder how many people who's watched Peter Jackson's 1993 "Braindead/Dead Alive" would find "Hostel" gross.

I take it you didn't like the film, kevb0444? I found it amusing and even if find any horror I thought it was well made, the acting enjoyable and the time went by quickly. You talk about "Night of the Living Dead" but let's face it that's a classic and still is 'unviewable' for some people. I didn't laugh watching that! Nor the PJ.

Maybe there are youngsters who will find it 'gross' and shocking. If so Mr Roth has done a good job in a difficult genre. Remember QT and "From Dusk Till Dawn" (a good fun film as far as I'm concerned) and that worked, there were how many follow ups?

Cinema doesn't mattter what the others think, it's what you think that counts, isn't it?

sorry foxy...im not so much having a go at "Hosel" as a film, but more so at the way it was advertised and over hyped. The thing that gets me is when people buy into the hype (as i did abit), they seem to think "this is gross because i'm being told its gross" and go around saying this is the sickest film ever. As for "From Dusk Till Dawn" (yes a good fun film) QT had alot more creative input in that film, he wrote the screen play. But with "Hostel" it seemed like they made the film as cheaply as possible then over hyped it and stuck QT's name all over it. I just felt (as did others) really cheated by it all. I'm just saying the bigger you hype something, the more the fans/views are gonna feel let down when it doesn't reach there expectations.
Okay kevb, I obviously missed your point I agree re the advertising and what people will then accept. Oveer here (France) it went by practically unnoticed (as did From Dusk Till Dawn). I saw it quite by accident and perhaps the other 7 people in the audeience did too! Whatever we all had a ood laugh!

Like any genre there are different types of horror. And different people buy into different things. What some would interpret as gore to a real horror fan is nowt. The normal reviews are aimed at the average easily impressed viewers. I have stopped reading them long time ago. Your best bet is to search those movies on the horror fans sites before watching them.

Everyone has different tastes. I for one just don't get TTCM and how on many lists it appears at the top yet Suspiria is almost always overlooked. Exorcist to me was a walk in the park.

People who scream at the Saw make me laugh, I bet they never seen CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST.

If people want gore I always tell em to go Japanese. None of that Ring or Grudge stuff, the proper horror.
