Again, middle-class liberals have patronisingly lectured the working class as to the benefits of immigration. For them, immigration means a range of trendy ethnic restaurants on the high street and access to cheap childminders. It is the working class who have had to endure diminished access to public housing as local councils highhandedly deem the needs of immigrant newcomers to outweigh the needs of the indigenous council tax payers, who may have been on the waiting list for years; it is they who have to see their children's education suffer as their local school fills up with immigrant children who don't speak English as a first language. And when they dare to complain, they are contemptuously dismissed as racists and bigots by those who are well insulated from the negative effects of immigration. Is it any wonder that out of sheer desperation, some working-class men and women may heed the siren call of the BNP?
If the BNP does do well (there is no guarantee that this will happen), please let none of us resort to that old routine of shaking our heads in sorrow and complaining that the working class has been taken in by the scaremongering of the right-wing press. Have the decency to credit them with more intelligence. We need to make an effort to re-engage with the working classes, to listen to them, and neither patronise them nor tell them that their concerns are not valid. As a start, we can have an honest debate about the costs, as well as the benefits, of immigration.

I agree with you, fender62. what is desperately needed is for someone to spell out all the benefits of immigration. By that I mean benefits to the existing population, not the obvious benefits to the immigrants. Once people can see how immigration benefits us all then there will be much less reaction against it and, probably, less support for the BNP.
So kepla, please enlighten us all to the wonderfull benefits of mass immigration. Is it the severe shortage of housing which has created a situation where most working class people can't afford to buy their own place, or perhaps it's the high unemployment figures contributed by the vast amounts of economic eastern europeans. Maybe it's the increasing strain on the NHS which ALL immigrants have full access to once here even though they've contributed diddly squat into it. Let me guess, another benefit is the increases in council tax to cover costs of translating all its forms and documents into 30+ diff languages? You'll prob mention something about cultural diversity or enrichment.....probably the same enrichment that makes areas in uk no go areas for white people.
Some very valid points Jackel. But I rather think the fundamental problem with the BNP is that they encourage fascism, white supremacy, Comabt 18, racism etc. not on the grounds of immigration 'per se' but more specifically on the colour of ones skin. Weak government, unworkable policies and an aptitude for 'I'm alright Jack' over the past 30 years, engendered by our self serving, gluttonous politicians have all helped create a climate ripe for rebellion by those affected most by our country's poor immigration policies.
I disagree. The old BNP under J.T. leadership was a white nationalist party. Griffin changed it into a 'ethno' nationalist party or modern nationalist party as it prefers to be called. C18 is a MI5 front to monitor nutcases and nothing whatsoever to do with the BNP. The BNP runs a 'etnic liason group' which allows ALL people from the ethnic minorities to liase with. Part of its manifesto was to recognise that immigrants or descendants of who are in the country legally should be allowed to remain in the country (as it is their home) free from any form of hostility or persecution. One of the BNP's elected councillors in Barking is of turkish descent, one in epping forrest is jewish and a candidate that stood in Bradford is of Armenian descent (hardly an advert for white nationalism). Its impossible to gain a true reflection of theBNP by reading whats in 'the sun'.
