Patricia Hewitt told nurses it was a fact of life that some of them would be made redundant before she was silenced by the RCN delegates --- does anyone else agree it's also a fact of life that when your in charge of an organisation, and it is failing, you own up to it, accept the blame and if necessarily either resign or get sacked for being incompetent -- so I wonder if Patricia Hewitt wants to wake up to that fact of life and act on it before Tony does to save his own kneck (for a little longer)

The NHS isn't failing - its changing rapidly, and there will be redundancies.
Incidentally there is no 'k' in neck. You must be confusing it with knee. Hope you ain't a nurse.

if you wish to be sarcastic, and also criticise for spelling mistakes, then I would suggest you correct your own grammatical mistakes before doing so.

The NHS is not failing, it is entering a period of rapid change, and as a result there will be redundancies.

Happy now? ( or should I say 'Are you happy now?'

I forgot the closing bracket; here it is: )

I beg to differ - there is a 'k' in the word 'neck'. It just happens to be at the end...

Livk - don't take this wrong, but your question is a bit loaded, isn't it?

Patty Hewitt is a lovely lady who smells of buttercups and freshly mowed grass.

Seriously - we can't have ministers resigning left right and centre when they've been given a difficult portfolio. It would just lead to deepened instability.

It is right that some nurses will be made redundant, but the question remains, why, these nurses are fully quallified and needed.

I believe, and stand to be corrected if i'm wrong, that you can only be made to be redundant if the job you are doing, is being lost, ie, then no-one else can take up that position, another reason would be closure of Hospitals and/or Wards, and in this case, and it is happening, Pat Hewitt, who is taking the flack, should resign for an apalling record,

As Lonnie states if you are made redundant your job no longer exists therefore this must result in ward closures or worse patient care. I cannot understand the reasoning where the people who actually do the caring for the patients sre sacked, but managers who do nothing regarding patient care are kept on or even increase in numbers.
Waiting lists will not increase as these are already creative so that trusts can meet their targets.
Patient care will suffer more day surgery when at least an overnight stay is needed, more medication given at incorrect times, more patients not understanding their treatment or even the diagnosis and need to continue treatment/medication. Future results more readmissions and more people remaining on benefit rather than being able to return to work.
I also agree it's also a fact of life that when you're in charge you will agree to use apostrophes in their correct place and not use your instead of you're!
livk, what have you done to warrent this sniping, we all make the odd mistake.
the NHS needs to change,if like me you are unfortunate to have to visit hospitals regularly, then you must have seen 6 to 8 nurses at the clinic stations when 2 or 3 would be enough, and of the 6 to 8 you have, 2 maybe 3 that are highly trained and paid nurses, what are the doing, just carrying your notes to the treatment room, what a waste, no wonder they are trying to save these jobs, don't get me wrong, I think our nurses are good, but they must allow change.
