Charles Clarke has said he wants to stay as Home Secretary, because he's in the best position to rectify the fiasco of the released illegal immigrants.

I believe that he is in the right position, but thats all, having presided and covered up what was happening, he should go, and let someone else do it. but thats my view, I'd be interested to hear what others think. Thanks,

well, it wasn't just him - it's been going on for years. He was the one in office when it was found out. I'm not sure anyone else would want the job of clearing up after the last two or three home secretaries, nor that anyone else is particularly suitable to do it; but as he certainly contributed to the mess, I can't see why he shouldn't get on with the job of sorting it out. Then he can go. (Either to the House of Lords or to the EU, I suppose, to give them the benefit of his experience in good governance.)

Charles Clarke wants to stay because he likes his ministerial perks, car, chauffeur and gold plated pension. He should be deprived of all these benefits and told he can't resign until the last of all these released illegal immigants in the community has been rounded up and deported.

A new candidate in the job will only cause more time and energy to be wasted covering the same ground again. Frankly I'm horrified by the whole debacle, and whilst everybody has had a good laugh at the John Prescott affair, this Home Office mistake is far more serious. I just wish they would all go. How much more incompetence must we take. And these are the people who want to introduce Identity Cards ??? We'd probably find that they'd issued them in error to every cat and dog in the country. Don't make me continue. I can feel my blood pressure rising already !

here, have one of my valiums, WendyS. I always keep a supply to hand out in the News section. But honestly, I wouldn't worry about it too much, Home Office screwups aren't going to ruin your life.

True jno, but when he was told, he kept it hidden, and at the same time, during his tenure, it carried on, so to my mind, he's had the chance to do something, and he;s done nowt. Can I have one of your valiums please?.
Of couse Fozzy should go,only problem is what idiot do you put in charge? but the home office needs sorting out as well,he might be the figurehead, but the incompetance goes a lot deeper than that wassock!!!
