I believe anyone that commits these dreadful crimes murderers, paedophiles, rapist, they should be disposed of slowly and let them suffer for as long as possible. They should not be allowed be given any chance, as they did not think twice about the crimes they commited, its like a holiday camp in these prisons t.v's. gym facilities, playstations. you name it they've got it! get rid of those evil B******* Life should mean Life not these silly 18months sentance for mowing down a pedestrian with no license or insurance..get rid of all of them i say, they drain on our society and our Taxes
Britain likes to follow the US maybe they should consider capital punishment, lets see how quickly possibly the crime would go down
let me know how you feel.......

The other problem is that if a person is subsequently found to be not guilty there is no way you can bring someone back to life - this happened quite a lot in the past. In addition, it may well be that juries would let people off if they though a guilty verdict would result in the death penalty, they may not want to be responsible for someone's death.
I also get very upset when I see the stoning to death of a rapist or murderer in the Middle East and feel that the people are actually lowering their standards to that of the criminal. However, this is a very personal view.
I would venture to say that the majority of people would be very distraught watching the murder of a person no matter what they had done. If you couldn't stand to watch it without getting upset you shouldn't be prepared for someone else to do it for you.
I agree that the current penalties are too soft for some crimes and sentences are not nearly long enough for a lot of crimes. There should be a review of the sentencing system to give a standard set prison sentence for each type of crime, which cannot be mitigated.
Murderers should be imprisoned for life, until they die, whether they have killed one or more than one person.
Paedophiles and serial rapists should be sent to secure mental institutions and never released into the public. Mind you, our taxes would go up, but I wouldn' t mind paying my bit.
louisa made a very valid point - the short sentences dished out to the scum of this world.
It always anoys me when the MAXIMUM sentence for crimes is increased. Being as very few are ever given the maximum sentence, surely it would be better to increase the MNIMUM sentence as a likely deterrent.
And it abhors me to think that someone gets only months inside for killing an innocent person on the road - when the driver probably had no licence, insurance or sometimes no MOT, or has stolen the vehicle - and as in a number of recent cases, should not even be in this country at all.
Yes "do-gooders" have a lot to answer for.
As a point of interest Louisa06, and all you other rabid " hang em high" lot, have you ever actually seen anyone violently killed? I personally don't imagine that you can have, or you'd have a wiser viewpoint than you have ( John, I know you must have, but you probably know what I mean when I say that it's no little thing to see someone die violently).
As undercovers says, once you've hung drawn and quartered them in your blood lust there's no going back, which if you've made a mistake and killed a guilty peson makes you a murderer and therefore liable to the same fate? Or not? You tell me.
Some sentences are pitifully inadequate, but a return to the dark ages where violence was seen as a cure all and actually merely cheapened life still further really won't help us.Look at the state of affairs in the US, do we really want to end up like that with a crime rate through the roof? We do sometimes get sentencing wrong, but by and large I'm happy enough with the UK judicial system.
Im not sure if i agree with capital punishment; mainly because there is a chance the wrong person may be convicted but also because once they are dead they dont have to suffer for what they've done. I think a Life sentence should mean Life in prison with no chance of ever being released back into society no matter how well they behave or how 'remorseful' they are. That said, it sickens me that money from our taxes is used to accomodate them.
It would terrify me to live in a country that uses capital punishment let alone hanging, draw and quartering. I'm relieved we don't have public executions as well - society has become more civilised and we shouldn't go backwards. You just never know what might happen - one day one of us could be in the wrong place at the wrong time and get wrongfully accused of something and then we have the dealth penalty hanging over our heads. Also, many murders are committed by mentally ill people who are driven to their acts by voices in their head, so I would have thought that in this case, the punishment for their crime would not have any bearing.
It worries me when people have a blood lust, even if it is aimed at those who commit crime- because it is not that far removed from the people who commit the crimes in the first place. In their own sick way, probably some of the criminals thought their victim deserved it and were carrying out their own 'punishment'.
