its a fact of life that the media never report any good things that kids do. I know of some youth groups that will be taking part in the 3 peaks challenge soon but will the Sun, Mirror, Mail etc have headlines sreaming "Children Raise 10,000 for Air Ambulance"? I dont think so, and remember there are more good decent kids out there that work hard at school, that dont smoke, swear, drink or hang around in groups intimidating others.
This silly little girl and her equally stupid mother do not reflect todays society, only a tiny fraction of it, and unfortunatly thats what sells newspapers

didn't we jsut do this - plus the proud quote seems to have been taken out of context in your article, i understand that she said she was proud of her daughter for deciding to keep the baby e.g. she was proud of her daughter trying to make the best of a bad situation rather than that she was proud of the original actions of the daughter.
To answer your point about why "she" is not be prosecuted is because..................
Although the age of criminal responsibility has been lowered to 10 years old, the age of sexual consent has always been 16.
Public interest comes in to the equation so where two 15 year olds are bonking with consent (although technically both breaking the law) it will never see the law courts.
However................Under NO circumstance can consent be given in law from a child who is under 13. Yes the 11 year old probably consented insofaras she said "yes" but legally she can not. Likewise if both parties are under 13 there will be no prosecution. It will be a matter for the social services.
Therefore the law can not prosecute people for whom the law is there to protect.
The new Sexual Offences Act 2003 has still maintained common sense in the age of consent insofaras if the girl (not boy!) is aged 13 to 16 and the boy is under 18 he can just get a caution (or reprimand). If convicted at court he will receive half of what an over 18 will receive including half the time spent of the sexual offences register.
However if a girl is aged between 13-16 the burden of proof that the offender thought she was over 16 has changed to protect the girl. Therefore, the message is if in doubt about a girls age don't do it. even if she looks over 16, in a bar, smoking etc etc etc.
With Rooney's injury ruining our World Cup chances we'll at least keep our title as Europe's teenage pregnancy capital.
Seriously, I think education could be better. Birth rates decline in countries (esp. developing countries) when the governments invest in educating the women. Yet crazily in places like Thailand it is financially more lucrative for a father to sell his daughter to a brothel than to put her through the education system.
I hope the so called mother gets taken to court for neglect, I mean, what was an 11 years old doing at a party where there was alcohol? where did this child learn to roll her own fags "while where mum looks on proudly"? where is the girls father? does she know her father? this girl doesnt even think that smoking will harm her baby!!!!!
God help the poor wee mite when he/she comes into the world, with role models like that what chance does it have? Hopefully social services will intervene and allow it to go into foster care and get a decent start in life although I suspect someone will argue that it contravenes the natural mother's "human rights"
What I find worrying is the sheer level of hatred shown to people on this site.
Silversky, "Mother of six" as though that was automatically a bad thing. I have a large family myself, far larger than six and I can happily tell you that I have never claimed a penny's worth of benefit for any of them and probably pay more taxes than the rest of you put together, so your statement offends me massively on a very personal level.
The level of banal, stereotypical claptrap spouted on here lately really sickens me to the point where I am seriously considering leaving and not posting here again, because this is no longer a question and answer site, it's a site where the bitter and disaffected pick on a media victim and tear them limb from limb. This week it's this poor 11 year old girl, previously it was Muslims, gay foster carers, it's always illegal immigrants and I daresay next week it'll be black people, lesbians, or any other minority or individual that take your fancy. The world is not ideal, it's a fact of life. People make mistakes, no need to lynch them for it is there really, or maybe you think they are candidates for the Hanging, Drawing and Quartering thread below? Actually some of you probably do.
