escaped rapists?
just heard on the news about the 2 convicted rapists escaping from an open prison in wales.
it seems that everyday there is some terrible news that makes me think that we can't get anything right.
both prisoners had life sentences - not that that means anything these days - why were they being held in an open prison?
they raped kids for gods sake.
they shouldn't be allowed in an open prison.
they should throw away the bl***y keys.
it makes me so angry.
ok. rant over!

Yes, we do mostly get on with life and often lead good, productive, even very happy lives ... BUT, the memories NEVER go away, nor does the emotional and even the physical pain in some cases. Rape victims, especially if they are children, often feel they are to blame in some way, while not actually understanding in what way this might be. They can become afraid to defend themselves when bullied, as they dont want to draw attention to themselves in any way. They dont want people to know what has happened. This can be out of fear of being seen as dirty or bad, or because the rapist has threatened to harm them if anyone finds out about the rape. We grow into adults who never quite feel safe around men. We watch out for men who might harm us, our children, even more our grand children. At the same time we desperately try to be normal, to learn to feel safe around men, to lead lives like everyone else. Rape victims mostly never ever learn to trust again; they always have a warning bell ready to go off in their brain. This in itself might even be a good thing, as at least we are aware of the dangers. It can however also lead to a lifetime of being with abusive partners. continued ...
continued... Me, I am lucky. After two husbands who (partly through my own fault) used and abused me, I now finally have a partner who knows what loving and respecting a woman is all about. He is my best friend, my lover and has given me back the confidence I had lost. I have gone from being a woman who wanted to blend into the background to a woman who loves her girlie clothes and feels safe and so loved. So, to all the victims out there yes, it is a life sentence for us, but we can still find happiness. Just please dont ever give up on yourself. If you do the rapist has won! And as for the rapist sorry, but they belong behind bars doing hard labour for the rest of their lives. One more thing though those who cry rape falsely they too need to be dealt with very harshly, for they can and do ruin innocent lives as well!
