Fender, Hezbollah is not an illegal militia. They have representatives in the lebanese government. As for the lebanese army they are just a proxy as they are not powerful enough to defend the country. Hence why UN tropps were deployed to Lebanon allegedely to secure peace and control borders.
Hezbollah came to power as the result of Israel's invasion of Lebanonin 1982 . It was then that They have promised to defend the country against the foreign invasion most notably and never again allow their troops invading Lebanon. The current climate has done nothing but to strenghthen the position of Hezbollah amongst Lebanese, who understandably see them as defenders of their country against Israel and America who has given military support during this operation.

mat66 I think you should get your FACT's right!! Hizbollah are freedom fighters as much as the IRA were (when they wern't arms dealing and selling drugs) and they are also an INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNISED terrorist organisation!!! Oh and just because you have a seat in parlement doesn't stop you from being a violent terrorist (see the IRA again, Hamas and the whole Iranian government)

I was merely expressing that the current situation should be looked into a wider time frame to understand the situation in Lebanon.
Hamas is a democratically elected government by the palestinians. Whether you like it or not that's just the way it is.
What I do question however is why America supplied Israel highly explosive materials during this conflict knowing that they will be used against Lebanon? Surely from a viewpoint of a 'good christian country' they have moral obligations.

That depends on your definition. It has been said here before that a terorrist in the eyes of one person/ country may be defined as freedom fighters to others. I believe that is true when you look at the situation of the arab/ israeli conflict in the wider time frame. It's only then that you can put things into perspective and see why the situation over there has escalated.
Admarlow, all the facts and information are available to us by media, newspapers, external readings and first hand experience with people who know a little more than avarege jo public on the subject area. This is where the parallel line ends and we formulate our own opinion based on the historical facts and events.
Agreed, the Israeli soldiers should never have been kidnapped by Hizbullah in the first place, but doesn't anyone think the response/reaction (bombing Lebanon) was a little harsh and extreme? Both sides are guilty of violence, IMO, so the blame shouldn't all be pinned down on one party.
Since people are comparing this to the IRA, when they carried out similar attacks or bombings in UK, did the British respond by bombing Ireland to bits?
I'm not taking sides here, simply trying to put another point of view across.

admarlow, and anyone else who feels utter hatred for terrorists...
You appear to have this powerfully felt hatred for those who deliberately and without malice take innocent human life.
I too find the thought of killing innocent people abhorrent.
Please direct 15 times as much venom towards the US-backed Israeli army compared with your hatred of Hezbollah when considering the recent attrocities comitted by both sides.
