just seen on the new richard hammond has ben moved to a hospital closer to his home, by helicopter!! why couldnt he get an ambulance like the rest of us low-lives?

Perhaps air ambulance was the most appropriate way to take him, given his injuries?

If the hospital he's in is a four/five hour drive away from the hospital he's going to, I would imagine that it's too great a risk incase he develops complications en-route. I think it's probably standard practice depending on the circumstances. Either that or he's going into private health care and his insurance is paying for it. I doubt the NHS would pay for it if it wasn't necessary, regardless of who he is.

It'll be because of back/neck injuries. One of our players was airlifted last year because of neck injuries, the ambulance showed up and decided that the helicopter was needed fortunately theres plenty of space to land on a Rugby pitch!

He has gone to a BUPA hospital nearer home, either BUPA will have paid or if as is usual NHS practice he was to be transferred nearer home then the NHS will have paid for the most appropriate method.
Maybe as a result of the magnificent amount raised for the Yorkshire air ambulance they did the trip as a thank you.

He was taken by helicopter because it was was doing one of its regular training excersise flights and was going to that hospital anyway, apparently.
What is all the fuss about this bloke for anyway, just cos hes on telly, so what, i couldnt give a monkeys about him.

And so much for the "significanrt brain injury" hes supposed to have suffered.

The only good thing about this is the fact that a lot of money is being donated towards the air ambulance.

and still no-one can give it a rest. stop abusing the poor guy, if he wants to fly to hospital he bloody well can do! his accident has raised enough cash to buy a new chopper so I think he's entitled to another trip!

surely the point here is the fact that a man who might otherwise have died is up and smiling and continuing to improve, all thanks to the wonderful people with the air ambulance who - because of the amount of awareness raised by the accident - can now afford a new helicopter. just because he's on the telly shouldn't we also remember hes a husband and father. wouldn't we all want the same treatment for someone we loved?

He was taken by helicopter only from the Leeds hospital he was in to Leeds Airport. There, he transferred to a private aircraft which flew him to Filton Airfield near Bristol and then he was moved to a hospital in that city.
What's the problem?
(That's what the 1pm BBC News said at least.)
