If those are the sort of injuries you need to travel by helicopter, then you can keep it. Good luck to him, I say
I'm not an expert, but I would have thought that any injury to the brain was significant. And that was the term used by the hospital spokesman, and merely reported in that fashion by the media. So, it would seem that the media can't be "blamed" in this instance. Maybe it would have made some of you happier if Richard Hammond was now a vegetable, just so that you could congratulate the hospital spokesman on the precision of his vocabulary.
Well I don't know the guy, don't watch the program, not interested in him as many that are never going to be on TV have as bad or worse accidents, BUT he is obviously known to millons and nobody (including me who never saw him) would wish him to have had such an terrible accident and quite prpobaly by being airlifted to hospital may well have saved his life.

However, the donations poured in for him, in his living memory, that went to the air ambulance service and that money that will benefit hundreds of others that will never be on TV or publically known - so if he goes from a to b in a helicopter then why not? Seems he has done more to highlight the need for donations to the air ambuilance service than anyone else has so good for him and I hope he had a bloody comfy ride.
Well said flubber!!
I spent 16 weeks in intensive care with my son who had brain cancer at the time. During that time on the neurological ward I met many patients who had varying degrees of brain injury. As Shammydodger rightly said, any brain injury is significant and serious. I saw numerous patients leave hospital looking fine after a few days but coming back for therapy for weeks and months after as brain injuries can take a very long time to fully heal. Back and brain injury patients are often airlifted as this form of transport is far less traumatic for them. So those of you who think Richard has been treated with unnecessary and undue care should be ashamed of yourselves! Get your facts straight please and be happy for someone who has been through quite an ordeal and most probably still has a lot of therapy ahead of him. He might look like he is fine, but looks don't prove anything when it comes to this sort of injury. Richard has been there for many charities and I am sure the Air Ambulance crew were delighted to return the favour. Let's just hope his recovery continues steadily.
Here Here! Get a life all you people who think this is media hype, it's people like you that sensationalise these family traumas that happen to "known" people or even tragic local events. Have some respect please, we all know lifes a circus, but when it gets down to the real stuff we should know when to have a private word with ourselves and give thanks that it wasn't us.
I think 4getmenot could be on the right track - from the pictures I saw, Richard Hammond was transferred to the helicopter in a wheelie-bed, but sitting upright, and not wearing a neck brace. I wouldn't call it a publicity stunt, but there has been a lot of money (about 200k?) raised for the Yorkshire(?) Air Ambulance as a result of the story, and maybe they'd just arranged for the airlift as a thankyou?.
I couldn't give a flying fig about what people pay & what for...what is it about people that makes them so offended by wealth?

In any case, I figured he flew by air ambulance ~ not a private jet ;o)
I wonder if the same people bemoaning Hammonds flight moan about the use of the Queens flight by certain political persons, who do not generate new air ambulances????
