I think so. If you have nothing to hide then there is nothing to worry about. I think DNA should be taken at birth. Then everybody in the country know as they grow up that if they commit a crime they will be easy to trace.

I agree ummmm it would not only make it easier to catch the likes of rapists and murders but also decrease identity fraud.

If someone was keen enough to get hold of your DNA, reproduce it in sufficient quantities to make sure it was found during forensic examination then they would need incredib le resources. It would be far easier to pay people to say they witnessed the person doing something, put some of their property at the scene or to doctor CCTV footage.

Personally I don't have a problem with it. At the end of the day you only have to worry if you've done something wrong.

I'd be interested to see how many case have been solved as a result of DNA being taken - I'm sure the pros outweigh the cons. The same debate was had a few years ago about CCTV invading people's lives.

simon gent....you dont need vast amounts of DNA to incriminate someone. all i would need is a few strands of your hair, your socks that i would brush over the crime scene, your shirt that i could brush over the crime scene and lo and behold your DNA is found at the crime scene. easily done

"If you have nothing to hide then there is nothing to worry about" - I'm sorry ummmm but that is incredibly naive. There are innocent people all around the world (including in the UK) who are imprisoned wrongly. In the past, we in the UK have hanged innocent people.

I'm always amazed at the naivety of some people when debating issues such as this. "If you haven't done anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about" argument doesn't do much to instil confidence in me. For the same reasons (which I won't bore you with) I am against ID cards, I am against a national compulsory DNA database for all citizens. This creeping towards a police state scares me.

The man who pioneered DNA fingerprinting himself says we have gone too far. But then who is going to listen to him when this govt is hell bend on taking away all our civil liberties.

Okay, I hear the arguments in favour, stating that if you have nothing to hide, it shouldn't be a problem...but what about people like me...who don't have anything to hide, but are thinking of committing crimes some time in the distant future?
